Mountain Biking Emma Long Motocross Park
#26 of 279 mountain bike trails in Texas
The 6 Mile single track is a blast and has about 110 feet of climbing with enough short (but demanding) technical rock sections. Be ready to dismount few times on your first ride. It might seem short in lenght but it will take longer than you think; it gets more fun everytime you ride it. The loop runs one way which is clearly marked at the trailhead. The track was originary for Motorcycles that can still be ridden (be aware of them).

Take MoPac North to the RR2222 exit. Go left on Northland and then right on 2222 4.5 miles from the light at City Park Road. Turn left and take City Park Road 3.8 miles (staying right at the fork) to Oak Shore Road. Take a left on Oak Shore and continue .9 miles until you see the Emma Long Motocross sign on the left.
technical, did this as part of the Enchilada Buffet. lots of steep ups, and steep downs.
Thank |Have ridden this trail about 10x. It is definitely an advanced trail. I still walk about 10% of it, to get up ledges. It is really a motocross trail, and you'll find the motorcycles there on the weekend. There is almost zero mountain bikers there, every time I've gone. Have ended up over-the-handlebars more than once. The 6 mile loop takes about 75 minutes for an intermediate rider like me. Some really great climbs, extremely secluded. And for some reason, the friggin' horseflies always find me. Overall, great trail-not for beginner or faint of heart.
Thank |rocks everywhere. I still cannot make most of the climb in these trail. the climb is deep either going be rock step or dirt and root combo. they do stack on one another. ride this trail when is dry probably good idea.
Thank |I usually rode blue/ black trail. enjoy. go down is fun.
Emma Long (City Park) is the most underrated Texas trail on Singletracks. This is the most technical trail I've ever ridden, and it was absolutely fantastic. I've ridden in Colorado, and I've ridden Pisgah, but Emma Long is more technical than anywhere I rode in those two places. If you can clean this trail, you are truly a skilled rider. I was on my 29er XC hardtail, and I was able to clean all of the drops but not the all of the climbs. There are some very large rocks at this place, and if you don't know what you're doing, you could easily get hurt. I'm sure local Austin riders know of even gnarlier places than Emma Long, but this place should provide a serious challenge to almost any rider.
There isn't actually a tremendous amount of real climbing here. It is mostly up and down, but the ups are very challenging due to the technical nature of the trail. Also, remember that it is primarily a motocross park, so watch out and yield to them. I would definitely recommend scouting out the major drops on your first visit, as there are often several different lines that vary in height and technical difficulty.
Thank |Fun little trail system. We were camping at Emma Long CG and rode it a few times from our camp site. There are some gnarly down hill sections that were a blast. Some climbing, but not too bad.
Thank |Very demanding trail that will surely test the skill of any level rider. This trail will test virtually every fiber and will power you have. If you have never ridden this trail before I would suggest going slow as there are some drops that do not look big but are, your skill maybe ok with them, but if you are not paying attention you can come across drops that must approach 10 feet. Most of the climbs and downhill drops are rock "step" type ledges but still some have pretty good distance between the "steps". Again this is a great trail to build confidence, test your limits, have fun, sharpen skills and surly anyone from the advanced rider to the new will find something they can enjoy about this trail. There are many entry/exit points off/on to the main loop that link directly to the roads that surround the trail. It would be wise to bring a map, GPS or friend who knows the trail for your first ride or two. As for this being a "motorcycle" park... Yeah... I have been here a dozen or so times at various hours and days of the week.. have yet to see a motorbike... have barley seen a fellow mountain biker.
Thank |The trail was very technical and demanding. I did find myself dismounting and walking up some rocky sections, which is expected because it is for motorcycles. The "Main Loop" consisted of a lot of rocky sections. There were a lot of significant drops, some I rode down others I didnt. There arent many sections where you can really open it up and take on corners. I had a bunch of "ah heck" moments, but it was just my skills being put to the test. The drive is about 50 minutes away and I will definitely be returning there in the near future. I highly recommend this to people in the surrounding Austin area, very worthy of your time.
Thank |Loved the rocky drops! Demanding and fun!
Thank |Found this trail last second and decided to ride it when I was in town. It was tough to find the trail at first. Once I found the Main loop it was a blast. Very techincal!! I think this is the best trail I have ridden in Texas so far and wish there were more trails like it. I wish I had my drop post on the bike for this ride, I'll have it next time.
Thank |This is the most difficult trail I've ridden in Austin.
Thank |Best riding I've found in the Austin area. Very challenging and technical terrain, not a place to bring beginners (or your wife). My personal opinion is that this trail screams for an adjustable height seatpost (like the Joplin R). It has made this already awesome trail, much more fun to rip.
Thank |The best trails in Texas! Not for the mtb'er who does not have technical skills.
Thank |Best trail in Texas! Love this place, and even though it is short, it is technical enough to keep you busy.
Thank |Fun, relatively short but technically challenging loop. Sections are very puzzle like, as in it took me several tries to figure out a workable series of lines for a few sections.
Thank |I'd use FS no question. Not for beginners. Great challenge in town.
Thank |I didn't like that there were so many moto-cross rutts. It made the ride too rough.
Thank |Also known as "City Park".
Thank |Sweetest singletrack in the Austin area hands down. Very technically challenging. Not for beginners.
Thank |Difficult. Six mile loop with technical rocky ledgy drops and climbs mixed with a bit of fast twisty hard pack. It's challenging - probably one of the most technical trails in Texas - but it's also a ton of fun.
