Mountain Biking Tahoe Rim Trail: Brockway to Watson Lake
#168 of 1,004 mountain bike trails in California
The trail from Brockway (7,000') to Mt. Rose Summit Welcome Plaza (8,990') is generally narrow and sandy, with some rocky sections and occasional scree slopes near Rose Knob. Most of the trail maintains a 10% or less grade, but there are steeper sections. This section of trail is open to hikers and equestrians. Biking - Allowed only for 7.6 mi. from the Brockway trailhead. Bikes are not allowed in the Mt. Rose Wilderness.
Recommended for experienced riders only

Do not leave a shuttle car at the Real estate station, park at the skier parking lot instead. Start at the TRT just below brockway summit. Ride technical, rocky singletrack to the top of the ridge (~4.5M). This climbs the whole way and can be strenuous. At the top turn West and ride till you hit a fire road. Ride the fire road north till you come to a singletrack (technical log crossing here) trail on the left. This trail climbs another 100 yards or so before dropping for close to 9 miles on some of the best technical, banked singletrack anywhere.
This section of the Rim trail follows a paved road (fibreboard freeway) so I find it more fun to start at Brockway summit on hwy 267 and bypass the first turnoff to the rim trail that goes north of the paved road. I ridenthenpaved road west over about one mile climb 11-14% grade then look for the rim trail as it crosses to the south side of the road. Here you start a downhill ride over one mile of very rock trail seemingly more rocky than in prior years. I very often have mechanical issues in this section and sometimes have to walk out for repairs. After the first mile the climbing starts again but over just occasional rocks and at 5% grade. After about three miles you cross a fire road that leads back to the paved road for those who have had enough otherwise cross the fireroad and start a steeper climb still with many rocky sections. Trail is in good condition After arriving at Watson Lake I advise taking the paved road back, free all you are working at 7-8,000 ft elevation
Thank |7 mile slow climb, some short steep sections. One part of the climb is pure jagged rocks and I have yet to be able to clear. Once to the top the ride back if fast and fun. A few options for jumps and drops. Nice and tech in some parts.
