There is an extensive network of trails in three blocks: Waipunga, Tait and Mill. You need a $10 permit to ride these trails because they are in a production pine forest on private land. Pick up a permit, which comes with a map and is good for three weeks from a local bike shop or information centre. Alternatively join the Hawkes Bay MTB Club.
MILL BLOCK is the newest and best with more sophisticated trails with berms, bumps, jumps, and curves that flow, thrill and challenge.
TAIT BLOCK is the smallest but still quite extensive with mainly intermediate trails on the hillside and a very nice beginners trail called Nemo on the flat.
WAIPUNGA BLOCK is by far the largest block with enough trails to keep you smiling for days.
They are all in a production forest and get closed from time to time due to logging or thinning activities. When you pick up your permit be sure to check the current status of each block.. Or check the Hawke's Bay Mountain Bike Club website at www.hawkesbaymtb.co.nz

These trails are starting to look tired and neglected. They're old style trails - good for a workout in the peace of the pine forest but the locals obviously prefer the newer trails in the Mill Block.
Thank |Back for another ride but I didn't find the magic this time round. The Tait Block of the Eskdale Mountain Bike Park offers pleasant rides in a pine forest but these are old-school trails. You won't find the fun stuff like swooping berms, table top jumps and so on that you expect in a modern bike park.
The trails seem neglected - the locals have voted with their tyres - they're out riding the new trails in Mill Block which are generally better.
Thank |There is plenty of good easy trails for improving riders in this block. Olivers Twist is a gem for intermediate riders. Wish You Were Here will thrill advanced riders. Don't come without your map first time up.
Thank |With 100km of singletrack and 40km of forest road, this is a large bike park with something for everyone - beginner to expert. It's in three main blocks of a production forest. Unfortunately, when the foresters get busy the bikers have to stay away and visitors need a $10 permit...
Thank |Nice trails in pine plantation that cater to all skill levels.
