Mountain Biking Fins n Things

***   Add a review
#209 of 710 mountain bike trails in Utah
#5,565 in the world

Fins & Things is primarily a double-track loop ride off the Sand Flats Road about a mile past Slickrock. Terrain is varied, with rolling fins of sandstone and rough doubletrack on sandstone with multiple sand traps, some of which is not biking friendly. The fins are cool, and there are views of Negro Bill Canyon. It represents an easy-to-get-to ride from Sand Flats Road if you're camping nearby and looking for a quick spin from camp or an alternative to Slickrock or Porcupine Rim.

Getting there
Head up Sand Flats Road from town (Left off Moab's main drag onto 300
South. Go east on 300 South until the road ends, then turn right. Take the
second left, heading east uphill.). From the entry gate drive 1.4 miles (go
past Slickrock). Look for "Trailer Parking" near a tiny camping area on your
right. Park here. The trail starts about 100 yards east, further up the Sand
Flats Road, on the left side.

Since I was camping literally right next to the trailhead I figured I had to check this out, and while I was glad I did, it just doesn't hold a candle to the other Moab trails. While the slickrock fins were fun, the "things" between the "fins" were sandy doubletrack roads, which were decidedly un-fun. If you've ridden everything else in Moab and are looking for something to do (or if you're camped next to the trailhead), give this a go. Otherwise, do one of the astronomically-better rides in the area.
