Mountain Biking Flint Ridge
#121 of 549 mountain bike trails in North Carolina
The first mile or so of this trail is a series of nine switchbacks that take you up a pretty steep face of the ridge. The top of the ridge has some great views of the Nantahala river with some pretty fast single track. You're rewarded for your hard work in the first mile with some pretty steep downhill on the way back home.
Although this trail will never compare to Tsali, which is 5 miles down the road, it's a nice change of pace and worth a stop if you're in the area to ride Tsali.

I'm a fan of Flint Ridge. The climb up the switchbacks is challenging and the turns are tight but it's really not that bad. Once you get familiar with the trail system and the road crossings it's easy to put together a much longer ride than just the 5 miles. I rarely see anyone up there. When Tsali is super crowded you can bet Flint Ridge will still have some solitude.
Thank |Great quality trail, but a little difficult to navigate at times due to the new road. I talked with an enthusiastic volunteer out on the trails that shared his vision for the trail system. And it's not just his vision: it's the vision of a whole group of riders banding together to make flint ridge into a full-service trail center serving riders from beginners to advanced. Watch this trail system over the coming years! Detailed review coming soon to http://GregRidesTrails.com
Thank |Great singletrack once you get to the top, but the initial climb is brutal- 800 feet in the first mile. The switchbacks are tight and the dropoffs beyond them are intimidating. A good challenge- do this when you feel fresh or it won't be half as fun.
Thank |What a ride! You may think I'm nuts, but I enjoyed this trail more than Tsali left, thompson and MB loops. The initial climb is definitely tough, but the payoff is superb! The scenery is amazing, the trail is very well-kept and I wasn't hung over after fun at Mickey's in Bryson City. Going down will increase the pucker factor. It took us 28 minutes to get up (all climbing) and about 3 minutes to descend. When descending, be careful on the switchbacks, they can be a little hairy :). LOVED THIS TRAIL!!!
Thank |Tough climb to get in, but great singletrack.
