Mountain Biking Flume Loop

***   Add a review
#278 of 1,392 mountain bike trails in Colorado

The three flumes run north-south. Lower, middle and upper flume, along with Mike's trail are in the Highlands residential area. The track illustrated proceeds south along the lower flume, then connects to the upper flume, going north. Eventually it connects with the middle flume coming back around, then to Mike's trail and back down to the Lower Flume to complete the loop. Other routes can be taken.
All singletrack in the trees. (It's a wonder my GPSr actually worked)
To get more detail there are a few maps of the route in the 2006 Bike Guide and the Town of Breck trail map.

The Flume Loop sidles round the hillside on the eastern side of the valley just north of downtown Breckenridge. There is not a lot of climbing in the loop but you would need intermediate skills to enjoy these trails because they are narrow in places and there are some rock gardens to negotiate. Good padding would also help as it's mostly on-saddle riding. They are two-way, shared trails and are popular with dog walkers and runners. There are great views across the valley to the Ten Mile Range where the Breckenridge ski field is located.

Nice trail! Directions to the trail via a link here didn't work. We found it eventually with the topo map.
Some parts are flow, some are rocky. There are a lot of forested sections and of course the occasional mountain McMansion.
Recommended especially if you've done the rest of the trails in Summit County.

A must ride in Breckenridge! One of my favorites, today 5.28.15 mostly dry, but upper flume from slalom to tom's baby very muddy be warned.

I went to this system with low expectations given other reviews and the trail system's reputation for a lack of aerobic or technical challenge. I must say this network was horribly undersold! Most of the lower trails are very arrow, with scarcely 6" of dirt width under your knobbies and the aspens seem to be closer together than your handlebar width. Once past the "Parade of homes" (the trails pass through a rather affluent residential area), things get even more interesting. If you take Middle Flume from North to South, you'll get a significant climb and have access to numerous other trails. Try to find the downhill on "Mike's Trail." It's the best of the bunch.

The flume trails are moderate singletrack with minimal grade changes and minimal technicality. This is a perfect ride for relaxed riders that like to traverse rather than climb and downhill.

There are three flumes that run north to south. Lower and Middle flumes are located in the Highlands residential area. These trails are interconnected and alternative routes routes can be discovered. All singletrack is in the trees. Stop by the Breckenridge Activity Center and pick up the town of Breckenridge trail map.

The parade of homes description is correct. Unless you're a beginner rider or you really love looking at million dollar homes skip the flume trails. But if you are a beginner it's a great place to start learning single track.

Parade of homes would be the best name for this trail. There are some parts where you can't see houses, but not many. With all the great riding available in the area I'd skip this one.

this is one of my very first single track on a mountain bike.this trail is what sits in the back of my mind like a compass.its been several years since i did, although i still remeber pedaling and pedaling and pedaling, through the trees and flowing single track.twisting and rolling and when you seemed to be tiring the trail leveled off enough to get that feeling back and that second wind and there i was again pedaling and pedaling and pedaling.man i got to get back up there.

Awesome trail, but don't bother paying Singletracks $19 for the trail map. It's just a fuzzy google earth with some crayon-looking scribbles on it. Totally worthless.
