There are numerous ways to get to Frontside from the main parking TH. This route starts on Prime Cut which is directly across the TH parking entrance and gradually climbs for 2 miles on excellent singletrack. Stay to the left @ the Chutes & Ladders jct. and through the upper parking area to the first singletrack on your right. This is the initial climb to get to Joe's Ridge and Zippety Do Da. Awesome singletrack through pinyon and juniper trees along the "Frontside" of the Book Cliffs. Stay RIGHT at both Joe's and Zippety. The switchbacks coming up are probably the most technical section of the lower portion of this trail and then into an open area heading west. Western Zippety Trail is on your left, stay right and on up to Coal Gulch Rd. which is well maintained. Take this road approx. 2.1 miles to a "hidden jct." on your right at a bend in the road. Now the real climb begins 2.2 miles on mostly singletrack to an amazing viewpoint. Mileage to here is 11 miles. From here you retrack to Western Zippety for an easier, faster way back to the TH or back up the switchbacks to finish out on either Zippety Do Da, Joe's Ridge, Kessel Run or Prime Cut. For the super human, try Chutes & Ladders to end. Great trail with many options.
Like all the 18 Road trails its a unique piece of singletrack. I used it once to go somewhere else and wasn't in the mood for it's ups and downs. Some good company would have helped! That's mountain biking...
Thank |I thought this trail was pretty fun. I used it mostly to get to the other trails. It does have a lot of ups and downs but still fun to ride none the less.
Thank |Rode this from the 18 Road out to the Edge Loop road. Not a huge fan - one of those trails that feels like you're going uphill both ways. All singletrack, but not enough sustained down to make it feel worthwhile.
Thank |This is usuallu used as access to the other trails, but it is very fun to ride by itself. Lots of ups and downs.
Thank |I only rode this trail to Western Zippety but found it to be a lot of fun. I was surprised at the steepness of the switchbacks and that the trail winds through the drainages at the bottom (something we could never get away with in the Midwest). Next time I will have to continue to the top for the views.
Thank |This is a great climb and the scenery helps ease the pain. You can take it all the way to the top of the book cliffs or just far enough to access Zippity (one of my favorite routes).
Thank |Tough little trail to access some of the others... up at the top of the trail system. As always with 18 road, great views and great trails!
Thank |OTE Sports new trail. Just techy enough to make it great, no dabs, and no dismounts. Great connector to other trails. Well designed and well thought out.
Thank |Excellent singletrack along and up to the Book Cliffs. A fair amount of climbing to the view point is well rewarded with great views and a fun fast 5.5 mile descent to Western Zippety. From here you can choose which way you want to return to the TH. Many options.
Thank |
