Mountain Biking Frontside
#289 of 1,392 mountain bike trails in Colorado
The Frontside Trail is one of the first sections of singletrack that you will come to when riding to Arkansas Hills from the town of Salida. This is a relatively non-technical climb up the frontside of the hills just outside of town. This is a great way to climb up and access the rest of the trail system! Just be aware that there are a couple of serious switchbacks and some serious exposure... but some amazing views of the town and the mountains in the background to go along with it!

there are three ways to get in to the town of Salida, from Colroado 291 from Buena vista. hwy 50 from Poncha Springs and hwy 50 from canyon city. from Salida look for F street and go over the F street Bridge. the road ends and leads you in to a parking area. From there you must bike over railroad tracks. You can take the Front Side Trail or Bike up to CR 177.
This trail is the gateway to the Arkansas Hills trail system. It is a great way to climb up on to "S" mountain and a great decent back to town. I would probably call it intermediate.
Thank |This is the trail that climbs S Mountain closest to town and is fairly easy. Good access to other trails higher up on the trail system It can be fairly busy which makes it a challenge with traffic going against you since the trail sidehills and switchbacks. Nice views
Thank |Great section of singletrack with amazing views!
