The Grandview Track climbs up through Grandview Station onto the Grandview Range where you get stunning panoramic view over Lake Hawea, Hawea Flat and Wanaka. On a clear day you can see Mount Aspiring.
The track crosses the creek several times (normally not deep enough to give you wet feet) and quickly becomes steep. It's a rough old four wheel drive track that eventually becomes a benched hiker trail. Unless you are very fit and strong you'll probably end up walking about half the way. There are several styles to cross as you climb about 600 vertical metres in 6km.
The ride back down is not as rewarding as you might have hoped. It's bone shaking and brake pad thinning - and that's if you take it easy.
But it is satisfying to get up high and look down on the rest of the world and the views are awesome on a good day. Don't confuse this track with the Grandview Range Track which is at the other end of the Range.
The track is closed for lambing from 26 September to 7 November.
