A narrow hiking trail winding through a forest, bordered by trees with autumn foliage. The path features a partially rocky surface and is lined with scattered stones and fallen leaves. Soft sunlight filters through the trees, creating a serene, natural atmosphere. Great Wall Loop mountain bike trail.

Mountain Biking Great Wall Loop

*****   Add a review
#15 of 115 mountain bike trails in South Carolina
#1,202 in the world

Great Wall is ~7.4 mile loop that can be accessed with a very short ride from the parking lot. Most people seem to prefer riding it counter clockwise but it's a great ride in either direction. Much like the other 3 trails that are accessed from the southern parking lot, this loop is fast, flowy and smooth. It's not quite the roller coaster/pump track of Skinny Loop and Brown Wave but there is little to no real climbing to speak of. Enjoy the glimpses of the river and don't make the mistake of skipping this loop.

Rode all the trail system in 2 seperate rides, well marked and easy to navigate. Trails are fast and have great flow to them. Would do again if in the area.

    Really liked this trail.
Since I was visiting I liked the fact that there are mile markers every mile or two.
This trail seems to favor people on 29ers. You can get some serious speed.
Climbs are just right, but still kicked my butt, so I was too tired to do other trails. I'll be back.

This trail had great flow and also some pretty big climbs for the foothills. On this trail not only can you push your speed, but you can also have fun on the abrupt sections of rocky trail. the only thing is it take awhile to dry after a storm.

I rode Great Wall counter-clockwise this past Saturday and had a blast! Compared to Skinny and BW, it offered the most overall diversity. Some climbing to keep you honest but you are rewarded with some really good flow sections. GW also offers a few sections with roots and a couple of small rock gardens.

    A solid intermediate trail.

Great Wall is the first trail I rode of the FATS trails. Great all round with a few obstacles. Almost equal amount of climbs as downs. I consider myself a beginner to intermediate skill with mtb but even having said that I constantly had to remind myself to slow down on many parts of the trail as it was easy to lose yourself to blasting the downhill slopes. Highly recommend if you're in decent shape because otherwise it can be a long 7.5 mile ride.

Rode CCW and had a blast. Downhill to start from the parking. Fast, fun and twisty. One of the beat in the area.

Road the Great Wall Loop on Wednesday for the first time. Trail was 7.92 miles and it took my one hour and six minutes to complete. When I took off my helmet, a river of sweat came running down my face. This trail is a great workout! The trail starts with some nice flowing tracks but then hits some rough areas with stones, then a tight section with a lot of cut backs through some pines that are tightly packed together. The trail finishes with some good climbs. Add it all together and you have a trail that offers a bit of everything you would want in a MTB trail.

in my opinion the best loop at FATS. Has some good climbs/downhill sections, some rocks, roots, twisty stuff follwed be roller coaster like sections. Has a 110 foot section of rock.sidewalk material known as "The Great Wall" a small rock bridge, at times logs to ride over and a hand cut twisty switch back that is fun. Love this loop in both directions. may be tough for beginer mt bikers.

Yesterday was my first time riding at FATS. The trail was very smooth, not to rooty. Make sure when you ride FATS, That you wear safety orange, so you can be seen by others riding the trail. This trail is great for a novice rider. Lots of jumps, and loop-dee-do's
