Mountain Biking Green Mountain Trails

****   Add a review
#26 of 1,216 mountain bike trails in Washington
#1,639 in the world

The first six miles are mostly up hill, so be prepared for a little huffin n puffin. The view from the top on a clear day and the great downhill is the reward for the climb up, Have Fun!

First time, parked at Golden Creek (GC) Trailhead. Flat easy trail in, bridge over Golden Creek, then immediate horse bridge into Davis Trail, which is also flat, easy (great for beginners). Rode to T intersection where I did not go the correct way, so backtracked to horse bridge. At that point, rode/hiked GC uphill, combo of steep, with switchbacks, roots, and hikers (not great for beginners ever). Reached beautiful overlook at intersection of trails GC , Beaver Pond and Vista. View of Olympic Mtns! Tried beaver pond but felt isolated so returned to GC which was fun ride down.
Later,Silverdale Cyclery recommended Davis Trail to GM17 on L up fireroads to top, rather than hike/bike up GC. Also later, hiked from parking lot to overlook which took 45 min, to give you idea of distance.
Didn't see any mtn bikes or dirt bikes either time.

this was tough. i started up gold creek trail, but a lot of roots to climb over so turned around and went back down to plummer trail and up that. not a better choice, just as bad.

it would be nice if there was a green level trail to ride up and come down one of the blue trails.. maybe there is a better way up. this was my first time, and most likely last. i think that i rode it backwards and would have enjoyed it more if i had stick to my original plan of going up gold creek trail

i will admit the view when i got to the top was astounding. and the ride back down gold creek was fun. only a six mile ride total. skipped most of wildfire and went up the road.

Very fun trail, nice hard climb, awesome downhill as a reward. There are also forest service roads if you want to shuttle up and just bomb the downhill. Either way you will have fun and love the amazing view from the top.

So sorry I have not ridden this place before now. Amazing and fun. Some of the best northwest XC riding I have done yet. Challenging tech climbs, but not totally un-doable. Did need to get off and walk a short stretch or two. Rewarding downhills which are a blast! Make it to the top of Wildcat and pat yourself on the back, but don't forget to stop along the way to take in the incredible views of the Sound and possibly Seattle. Don't let the fear of Moto keep you away. Trails a little scarred from them here and there, but affected our ride very little. Saw none while we were out. I am surprised they even allow them for it's such a beautiful place. Bring a map. Can't wait to go back.

Love this trail- first time I took it I was riding a commuter bike. For real. For stupid. Upgraded to an entry level hard tail Talus 29er (btw- from Silverdale Cyclery- AMAZING LOCAL shop!!) Can really rip it down this trail with some technical and plenty rocky stuff on top (before Horse Camp). After horse camp- enjoy the flow and some little berm jumps. Only caveat to you all- it's pretty grueling if you want to ride all the way to the top. (Recommendation if you only have a couple hours- park by the first fire road you see past the Wildcat Trail parking lot (not even a quarter mile past it) and ride that up to Horse Camp. Top to bottom there is a simple 1.5 hours- and I'm in awful shape!) Otherwise, if you're extremely lazy, such as I, wait until the summer, leave a truck down below at Wildcat Trailhead, throw all your bikes in another truck and ride up fire trail GM-1 off Lake Tahuyeh Rd. Save your legs for an amazing ride!

If the ascent of this trail is "intermediate" then I'm Elvis Presley. It is 5 miles of relentless, brutal, technical climbing. The way down is punishing, but very fun. What a work out!

I give this trail a 5 because I was really surprised at how challenging it was. Granted, on my low end rental 29er hardtail with flat plastic pedals it was much harder than it should have been, but I am surprised there are not more reviews of this trail. I will rectify that. I parked at
Wildcat, though there are two parking areas. What started out as an unassuming wide-ish singletrack turned into a fairly steep climb littered with scree and some large chunder for 2-3 miles. The trail had some mud but most of the trail was dry and easy to ride with lots of flow even in the climbs. After about 1.5 miles of climbing you encounter a parking area called 'horse camp, and here the trail splits. I rode, and would recommend, going left and staying on wildcat to ride the loop clockwise. The climb continues and you are rewarded with spectacular views of Seattle and large rolling alpine forest near the top. After 3-4 miles you will intersect with Vista trail, which I would avoid only because there is no vista after the brief 5 minute climb and only accesses another parking area from the parks many, many fire roads. Stay right to go on Beaver pond. Not long after you have the option for another smaller loop via Gold Creek/Plummer trail, which unfortunately I did not have the time to explore in the late afternoon. It is mostly downhill or rolling flats from here back to the intersection at horse camp, through lush green Pacific NW forest. A bit disconcerting when you are alone in the late afternoon on your first ride here, it is still a magnificent trail through serene dense forest. Once you intersect Horse Camp, the ride is a blast downhill. I'd honestly recommend a medium FS travel bike for this trail; there are some kickers and several chunky rock sections that would be a full on tech-fest on the right steed. Will definitely go back.

Good times. Trails are holding up despite wet conditions. Gold Creek and Wildcat seem to have less moto destruction than previous years.

This is a great trail that is very close even for Seattle riders. At just under 1/2 way there is a campground used maily by horseback riders. Once at the vista you can either take the Wildcat Trail down or link up with the Beaver Pond Trail. I'll have pics and a writeup for that trail in the near future. If you come in from the opposite side, the Gold Creek Trail is another option to the vista and can be linked with either the Wildcat Trail or the Beaver Pond Trail. Whichever tail you choose, the downhill is a complete blast.
