Mountain Biking Gridley
#260 of 1,004 mountain bike trails in California
This trail is moderate/difficult aerobic and intermediate with some advanced technical riding. Gridley starts climbing right away and is fairly steep. It briefly intersects a road and continues up through Avacado orchards, please resist the temptation to steal any. It then returns to singletrack goodness and continues to grind up to the Ridge at about 5 miles. When you reach the road at the Ridge turn left and head up to Nordoff Peak for views of the Pacific and Channel Islands. This trail has a couple of forks that are well marked, please stay on the trail and away from the private property. If you are really masochistic you can connect this over to Sisar Canyon for a 30+ mile day. I lost 10 pounds on one ride doing this. Bring lots of water if it is hot out you are exposed and will need it.

From 101 Head North on the 33 towards Ojai. In Ojai the 33 comes to a Y go right onto Hwy 150 and cruise slowly through downtown. Gridley Road will be on the left in a couple of minutes after leaving downtown. Follow Gridley for about 3 miles until it dead ends the TrailHead is here on the left.
Long steady climb up. Sustained but never unpleasantly steep. More technical and a harder, if not longer, climb than Sisar Road. Descent isn't terribly technical except for two things: (1) there are some narrow sections with high exposure. Easy riding if you don't let it get to your head (2) the fist 1/4 mile from the trailhead is a tricky rock garden, very technical both ip and down in sections like parts of Romero Canyon.
Thank |Decent work out on the climb. Great scenery, especially if you go to the top to Nordhoff tower. Fun downhill with some technical sections. Be careful on the sections with loose shale, sometimes they are worse then others.
