Mountain Biking Guacamole Mesa

*****   Add a review
#35 of 710 mountain bike trails in Utah
#511 in the world

Fantastic slickrock, awesome singletrack, big exposure, stunning scenery, great flow. If you hit all the routes, you can get in 14 miles of endless variety throwing the best of everything mountain biking has to offer at you. It's the best of Gooseberry and Little Creek, all in one beautifully compact mesa adjacent to Zion National Park, but without all the people. There are some tricky navigation spots, but you always have points of reference.
Trail is marked with cairns, but no signage - remember the trail junctions, and you are ok. The Zion range is usually visible for orientation.

Gauc is my favorite of the mesa trails outside of Hurricane. It can be ridden most of the year round, although the road up to the mesa can get a bit sticky during the freeze/thaw months. The trail intersections are fairly well marked with cairns, and there are endless possibilities even when staying on the trail paths. The outer loop (Holy Guacamole) is a must ride as well, and the trail offers great rides in either clockwise or counterclockwise paths.

Every bit as good as better-known local trails Gooseberry Mesa and Little Creek Mesa, this narrower version of the others is a must ride when we have time to do more than two epic trails. Add to that the eerie burnt forest, the petrified wood scattered throughout, the views of Zion and the lack of traffic and you have a recipe for a killer ride. It is mostly desert slickrock, boulders and red dirt. Cairns mark the way, but you have to pay attention. I prefer to ride it counter-clockwise. After rain or snow, the clay/mud hill approaching the start of the trail is too treacherous to drive. You can park at the bottom and ride your bike the few hundred yards to the beginning of the trail.

Found it less tech and physically challenging than Gooseberry and more secluded. Any decent clearance vehicle can drive up to the mesa, 4x4 not needed.

Flows amazingly, has a bit of everything. It has single track down by the south rim and a lot of technical riding that people are looking for on these unique Mesa's in Southern Utah. My favorite Mesa its awesome go ride!!

Stellar trail in every way! Fantastic slickrock, awesome singletrack, big exposure, stunning scenery, great flow. It's the best of Gooseberry and Little Creek, all in one beautifully compact mesa adjacent to Zion National Park, but without all the people. There are some tricky navigation spots, but you always have points of reference. Be sure to hit the newer extension loop on 'Holy Guacamole--it's so well worth the extra mileage and route finding (as of 5/14, it's not signed, but there are arrows on the ground indicating it's presence). This ride is remote, and the drive up should only be done by a high clearance 4x4 (the last pitch up is very steep). It's more than worth the trouble required to get there--this is a must do for any adventurous rider.

Q: Anyone going to be riding this in August?
A: Q: Not me - but Over The Edge sports in Hurricane do a Saturday (from memory) group ride, which rotates between destinations - inc guacamole. They are super friendly.
