Mountain Biking Hanna Flat
#136 of 1,004 mountain bike trails in California
Hannah Flat is a smooth, easy, but blazing fast singletrack descent from the
Hanna Flat Campground.
The actual singletrack is not nearly 8.4 miles, but ridden as a loop with some
gravel roads it comes out to about 8.4. Loop it with forest road 3N14 (see GPS
map provided).
Passing through some rock areas and hugging the sides of the mountain, Hanna
Flat is a very scenic trail and is very beginner and intermediate friendly. Lower
down the trail drops out onto a gravel road. Hang left and pick up the Grout Bay
Trail for the final descent to the lake.

Thank |Plus: scenic, technical second half, single track second half, fast in places
Thank |Minus: fire road first half climb, second half single track doesn't flow (a bit stop/go up/down), Loose Sand! Wheel grabbing sand
Beautiful terrain, but don't let the 7000 feet of elevation bite you in the butt....it's no joke if you're not used to it!! Can't wait to do it again.
Thank |Very fun single track. Blazing fast in some sectons, most of it was very smooth easy but super fun. I went from Hanna flats campground to the lake. Took about 40 min. Make sure to turn out and do the climb to the peak. I didn't have a problem with grip or sand but I went a day after it rained.
Thank |This ride is great! I started at the Grey's Peak Trailgead. Then road Hwy 18 to 3N14. 3N14 is a long gradual uphill with a smooth downhill to Hannah Flat Campground. From there the ride is mainly single track sections. The ride is great, however there are a few turns with soft sand. This area was burned a few years ago, but regardless it is still beautiful with new flora growth. Once to the Grey peak trail sign make sure to go left and pick up the Grey Peak trail again down the road a little or you can continue and do an extra 2 miles of climbing to Grey Peak. Once you are coming down to Grout Bay there are a couple rocky technical sections but nothing you can't handle with care and speed control. Have a great ride.
Thank |dusty dry sandy, big long climb
Thank |Easy beginner trail. A little sandy in some areas but still allows for some fun fast riding. Great morning ride especially if you happen to be camping at the hanna flats campground.
Thank |Awesome descent!
Thank |Easy, but so fun!
