Mountain Biking Harrison Bay State Park

****   Add a review
#45 of 202 mountain bike trails in Tennessee
#2,068 in the world

The 1,200-acre Harrison Bay State Park, with approximately 40 miles of Chickamauga Lake shoreline, was originally developed as a Tennessee Valley Authority recreation demonstration area in the 1930's. Its name is derived from a large bay at the main channel of the Tennessee River that covers the old town of Harrison, and the last Cherokee Campground. The trailhead is located near the marina. Take the first left upon entering the park and follow the road around past the marina. The trailhead will be on your left, shortly after passing the boat ramp. Look for the trailhead kiosk.

Pretty flat and fast, but it's a lot of fun. This would be a perfect starter trail for a new rider.

Nice trail for a novice rider. Elevation changes just enough for fun but wont beat down a new rider. Some roots an a very few rocks, but it will help develop line choice and as you build speed its easy to look ahead. Taking my wife for her first ride in the morning. Nice trail.

Easy beginner trail that is about 4 1/2 miles. Should avoid for about two days after heavy rain. The trail takes a long time to dry out.

Great trail but it needs plenty of time to dry out after a rain. A great loop, but very muddy today. Lots of roots and a few quick sections.

This is a fast single track lollipop trail. There are some areas with a good deal of roots and a couple of small climbs. It is a mixture of hard pack, sand and a little bit of small rock. It is very close to the waterline most of the time so it can get wet when it has rained and it will hold water for some time. The mile markers are layed out in a clockwise fashion but there is no designation as to direction when the trail splits. This is a state park with camping so there can be a people walking dogs on the trail. There are a couple of benches along the trail overlooking the water.

Great 4.5 mile trail. Made for beginners and will not excite those looking for something really challenging. I love it for a good fast ride. I usually do it two or three times.

Easy, breezy, beautiful, Bay Point trail loop. This is an AMAZING beginner trail, and could really help beginners to learn how to make "good lines." There are about 3 hills to climb, some fun downhill, and even some "jumps" if you want them to be. It's a very quick 4.5 miles with rocks, roots, one bridge (very wide), and 2 gazebos along the way if you feel like taking a scenic look at Chickamauga Lake. Even for experienced beginners, this is only a work out if you do the loop 2-3 times. Still a fun ride.. I saw two deer.

Good Trail for beginners. There are not a lot of technical sections to this small four mile loop, but it is a fun ride none the less.

I've ridden this trail a few times and wasn't that impressed. Don't let me discourage you because I am a glutton for punishment and like to ride at least 10+ miles without retracking the trail. This trail is between 4 and 5 miles unless they have added to it in the past year. There aren't any extended uphill or downhills. There are a few tricky spots and some good scenic rest spots. It just doesn't do it for me, but if you want a nice short scenic ride by the lake go for it. It's muddy after it rains and watch out for poison Ivy in the spring and summer. Not the best trail in Chattanooga, look up the new Racoon Mountain TVA Pumping Facility trail; just ask someone at a local bike shop.
