This is a great network of trails with fun climbs and good downhills. Don't miss out on the natural half pipe which is called Rollercoaster.

From Pittsburgh take Route 8 North then turn right on Harts run. Park at the lot before the school.
Very nice place to ride a lot of different trails even get to see some wildlife in these trails clearly marked by the numbers and the Allegheny trail maps first time we've ever been here had a very good time recommend it to anybody
Thank |We drove almost two hours to ride this trail series based on the four-star average rating. While it may be great for locals in the Pittsburgh area, we found it to be disappointing because we literally had to stop every half-mile to figure out which trail we were on and where we needed to go. We had a map but the trails were not marked well. On a positive note, sections 4, 3, 5 and 6, in that order, were the most fun as they had decent flow and multiple obstacles (e.g., rock gardens, large up & overs).
Thank |Great Black Friday riding. Always friendly people on the trails. Awesome conditions today!
Thank |awesome ride. great singletrack with a few obstacles thrown in for good measure. love the roller coaster/figure 8-ish run.
Thank |A great, older trail system that you can get some decent miles in with connecting your favorite sections. Expect many roots and rocks and some features that make this place unique.
Thank |I love the single track at Hartwood Acres, though some of the hills could use some more switchbacks.
My favorite way to start is #19, the roller coaster...start at the entry road, where the parking lot entrance is (red white and blue statues), then roll through this terrific trail.
Like most trails here, it is short, but it will take you on to #20 if you like, or #13 which is longer and in my opinion, better if you go back the other way, or go back and do it a few more times.
Two other good areas are #4 Hee Bee Jeebee as well as the #15, though #15 has been wet when other trails are dry.
Overall a great park to single track with plenty of options to ride a trail or two then hit your vehicle for a break before going back out.
Thank |Great ride. Very nice single track. A little less hills than north park. Nice obstacles. Not a lot of rocks. Really enjoyed my 2nd trip there
Thank |No bad. Nice s turns up and down hills seemed unique. A bit confusing. Still not as good as north park.
Thank |Third time on this trail in 3 weeks. It gets better each time.
Thank |Check out this awesome map that shows the lay out of the park and how the trails are marked with numbers and blazes. The system is so concise and easy to find your way around in. I HIGHLY recommend this park, even to beginner riders. Most obstacles have a chicken line so you can get your feet wet SLOWLY if you need to. But do yourself a favour and try to hit the obstacles. Most of them are well built and if you just pedal through, you'll seriously be fine.

Thank |I rode this trail system for the first time yesterday. Almost freaked out a couple of horses along the way! The trails were awesome and there were lots of really nice log piles, bridges, stream crossings, etc. to ride over. It was not hard to get up some good speed and really enjoy the adrenaline rush too. I highly suggest this trail system if you ride a hardtail 29er.
Thank |Hartwood Acres is an Allegheny County Park outside of Pittsburgh. It is loaded with singletrack with lots of trees and many rolling hills. This is a great place to ride a singlespeed.
Thank |I am lucky enough to live nearby and never tire of the place. Hartwood has earned a reputation for fairly technical riding. It is not unusual to pull into the parking lot and run into people who have come a long way to ride there. My favorite was "I'm from Canada, on my way to Florida, I dropped my wife off to go shopping and can you show me the trails?"
This is also a good place to ride in the winter if you respect the trails and stay off of areas you could damage. Early morning is best when it is still very cold and the trails are frozen.
These trails are being maintained in cooperation with Allegheny County Parks by PTAG (Pittsburgh Trails Advocacy Group).* Review edited 11/20/2011
It is easy to do a 12 mile loop with fun technical sections and tight turns through the trees.
