These recently built cycle trails are firmly in the "family-scenic" style of ride. They are flat, wide, smooth and beautiful. They tend for follow the coast or river banks or wonder from winery to winery in this region of fine chardonnay.
There are four distinct rides...
1. Water ride. Takes in the coast and river banks around Napier. It skirts this charming art-deco town, takes in cafes, shops, bars, a country pub, a winery, the river and the broad blue Pacific Ocean.
2. Landscapes ride. Takes in the better beaches, the iconic coastline of Hawke's Bay and comes close to Cape Kidnappers, location of the world's largest mainland gannet colony, and the Tuki Tuki river bank with orchards and wineries.
3. Hasting i-way Loop. Takes in the cafe scene in Hastings and the Clive River banks.
4. Wineries Ride. Follows a mixture of back roads and off-road trails that take in a dozen great wineries. Don't miss it!
I rode the wine trail loop yesterday (in March 2016). As a ride it has no great merit and nearly all the wineries are in the western corner. So go with friends, head west, enjoy the food and wine, and get a shuttle home when you've had enough!!!
Thank |Great rides to recover from your exertions in the Eskdale Mountain Bike Park. A good way to socialise with friends and imbibe some quality chardonnay along the way.
