e Howard Trail is an mtb trail that roughly parallels the Arthur's Rock trail in Lory State Park. Howard can be accessed from the parking lot on the Mill Creek Link Trial, and climbs about 1000 feet to the back Arthur's Rock, where it intersects with the hiking trail to the summit. The trail can be ridden as an out and back, or as a loop with other trails. I prefer to climb the Timber Trail and ride down Howard because there's too much hike-a-bike on the way up Howard, so I'll describe it in that direction.
The upper part of the trail is very narrow and rolls up and down thru a dense forest -> fun. As the trail turns downward it begins throwing big technical rock obstacles at you, including group of drops with lot of off-angle complications. They are virtually all rideable, but there are lots of endo opportunities with fairly high consequences. There is a section of swoopy flow, and then the trail throws in a steep section with lots of log drops -> fun on the way down but not on the way up. The bottom section is medium speed switchbacks, with enough rocks to keep it interesting.
The trail mixes in very tight switchbacks throughout the ride. You won't be able to ride them all without some advances techniques.
