This linking trail connects the ride out to Huka Falls to the Craters Mountain Bike Park in Taupo. It starts at the Huka Falls car park, meanders through bush beside the Waikato River and then up to the Hub Cafe. (That's the one with the big old helicopter beside it.) From there the trail goes through a tunnel under the highway and reaches the Craters Mountain Bike Park where it joins up with the trail called the "Tourist Trap".
So to ride out from Taupo to the Craters Mountain Bike Park, take the Rotary Ride to Huka Falls then pick up this trail which combines two trails on the "biketaupo" map: the Cafe Trail and the Tunnel Trail.
Nice link track
Thank |It's a very useful trail if you're in Taupo without a car. It completes an enjoyable ride out to the Craters Mountain Bike Park via Huka Falls, avoiding busy roads. The second half of this ride - from the Hub Cafe to the Craters Mountain Bike Park - is the Tunnel Track. It's interesting to do once as it goes down a deep gully and then through a culvert under the highway, but most people just ride over the highway.
Thank |Technically you're riding a longer distance to get from Huka Falls to Craters on this track, but otherwise you'd have to take the road, which isn't as fun and has a large climb. This track takes an easier slope to wind its way up from the river. Good safe way of getting from one trail to another.
