Hurkey Creek Park is in the San Jacinto Mountains near the town of Idyllwild. The 24 hours of Adrenalin series makes a stop here, as well as Idyllwild Spring Challenge.
Exfoliator was created solely for the 24 Hours of Adrenalin race series, as a bailout route, instead of taking Missing Link. It is not sustainable, without much effort. Once the race series ended and 3 devastating fires destroyed the trail system Exfoliator lost all support, due to its steep location, rock hard clay content and deep V-channel ruts, providing a drain for water runoff. Exfoliator proudly served its purpose until 2013. This is just another sad tale of nature reclaiming its land.
Trail pretty badly washed out in places, incline up to fire road deeply rutted and portions of trail are in closed off area due to 2014 fire in area; lots of sandy stretches. Great scenery.
**CLOSED DUT TO FIRE DAMAGE** No meeting on possible re-opening until Sept 2014. I absolutely love this ride because it has it all...climbs, rock gardens, high speed smooth DH areas and on and on and on
Nice trail but you do have to pay a fee to park (2 bucks i think if i remember correctly) Pretty sweet trail. Great views. Popped my inner, made the quick fix and shortly after popped my spare on this trail. Going to go tubeless soon!
Second time. Parked by the gate, didn't pay too go in. Nice ride really, i'm still new too the mtb world just started last year :). Lots of sand bars, nice small rock areas with easy ride downs on them, not much jumps if i remember right there was three. Rain made some of the singletrails on the down hill side crazy ( heels over bars i went a fem times) with clipless pedals too. Really nice down hill back into the campsite, but long uphill too the gate again. All in all i like this trail.
Tough climb right out of the gate but the descent is worth it. We rode this trail in November, so it was in pretty bad condition due to water runoff. Gorgeous view at the top. Also, expect to spend a large portion of the ride on a fire service road-not singletrack.
This trail is AWESOME! Has extraordinary mountain views, technical climbing and downhill sections, fast sweeping meadows, creek crossings, just tons of fun! If you're going to be anywhere near this trail make plans to go, you won't de disappointed!
Drove up from Palm Springs to ride this trail over the thanksgiving weekend. Rented a bike from Tri-a-bike which I highly recomend! The trail was in pretty bad shape due to alot of rain. If you ride here this winter expect washout conditions, especially on the climb out of the parking lot. We parked in the Hurkey Creek camp ground where you have to pay something like $3.00. The Rangers are great but give you a pretty sketchy map so just remember to take the first left after the walk though gate.
