Mountain Biking Indian River Park
#48 of 300 mountain bike trails in Virginia
This park is shared between BMX and Mountain bikes. There are lots of technical challenges like narrow bridges, jumps, logs, & titer toters. Although its a small park there are many different paths to take and you won't get tired of it because it's always evolving.

If you're coming from Greenbrier Area turn right on Military Hwy, then turn Right on Rokeby Ave. The park is marked on the right side.
The description on here is wrong about the trail. I have been riding this trail system for 10 years now and have seen it go up and down. It is way better than it used to be. EVMA takes care of the trail system. It is not 3 miles. Just the outer loop will put you at almost 5 miles. there are a lot of different section of the trail. highlest elevation is ave 15 ft. There are spots that many do not find as they dont turn off the mail trail. There are jumps, technical obsticles, a BMX area, single track, tight turns. Two parts to the park. There is a field with power line towers that split the trail up. 3 entrances, maybe 4 in between. There are 4 spots to enter the trails. The main parking thoug is the indian river park side, the other side of the trail is called IPSWITCH. There is so much to this trail system. Its awesome to have only 8 mind away.
Thank |The trails are definitely progressing from what they used to be. A new trail is being built and it's much more challenging than some of the other areas of the trail. There are still plenty of features scattered throughout the trails to keep it fun. Much more direction as to where the trails go. "Follow the blue trail markers". Then after your warmed up hit the new trail at the trail head. It's not finished yet, but you will get a thrilling ride with berms, bridges, drops, and a good flow. Thank you to person working on this trail.
Thank |Someone's been building some pretty nice new features out here on the Ipswich side... follow the small ridge FROM Drew Drive and hit the trails the drop off the right side... it does NOT flow as well when heading TOWARD Drew Drive...
Thank |This was the first trail I rode after buying my new bike. The whole system is fun and provides a plethora of different obstacles to ride.
Thank |Please, for the love of God, DO NOT get rid of what little root sections this trail network has with your "shovels and saws"!!! If you can't ride the roots, practice AND LEARN HOW TO RIDE THEM! Nothing in this park is difficult, it's very beginner oriented.
I just moved here and got here right after Hurricane Matthew, and some of the smaller jumps looked like they got some damage, but easily repairable. There are some very large jumps in the park, though, and they seem to be very well maintained, still. . It'd be nice if there were some medium sized jumps, as it seemed to be either smaller ones, or massive jumps in there. Nothing really in the middle.
I only just moved here, and could've missed some stuff this area has to offer, but it's def not a bad spot given the area it's in. I really hope none of these people talking about removing root sections in this trail actually follow through with that crap. I'm honestly amazed that there's sections that people want "dumbed-down" as there are no difficult sections.
Thank |This is a great place to learn how to ride. I am not sure an advanced rider would find this place fun, but it offers several steep climbs, drops, and narrow bridge crossings.
Thank |Great trails if you are just starting out or if you just want to hit something that isn't too difficult or technical. My wife is just starting out and this is a great spot to get her used to trail riding. There are some TTF's and a section where the local BMXers have created some pretty sweet jumps. There are some sections with roots but overall not bad.
Thank |consider this my home trail. been ridding here since around 1987. Flat but flowy and great for the area. some TTAs have fallen apart over the years but others have appeared. EVMA does a great job keeping it up. Easy to get lost but just pick a symbol and follow. A good long one is the green >. pretty much takes you the around the entire Park. One side is considered IPSWITCH and the other is IRP. Get out there and just ride. Lots of hikers and dogs on the weekends but everyone gets along. BMX jumps are fun to stop and watch when they are at it. Defiantly worth a look if you are in the area
Thank |This actually a great place to ride. I keep reading old reviews saying it was in bad shape and that it was covered in litter. I did't find any of that to be the case. Lots of small trails that criss cross the park. The brides seemed to be well maintained. There are a lot roots in the trails. So what if there are. It kinda comes with riding a bike somewhere besides road or sidewalk. There is a very nice BMX section with lots of jumps that are very well maintained. Besides those jumps it mostly flat narrow trails with lotsa switchbacks along some ditches. If you can't stand how how flat it is then move to Colorado otherwise enjoy. The key is to go across the power line field.
Thank |Decent ride, nothing too technical or difficult, but an easy flowing bunch of trails. It's not hard to find your way out, but it could be marked better.
Thank |I was really surprised by this park. It has some fun riding and a mixture of trails, obstacles, and jumps that I will never be able to achieve (huge!). It was drizzly when we went so we were the only ones there. Total fun roaming around hitting little jumps and crossing bridges. I have to say that the upkeep appeared to be pretty good, the bmx track especially, someone or some group takes care of it. It's not a huge trail but it's easy to put 5 miles in and still feel like there's something else out there. I think it fits beginners and intermediate levels, just my opinion as a newbie getting back into riding. We will definitely go back.
Thank |The park has been updated a lot. The cCity of Chesapeake Parks and Rec have taken over and have rebuilt bridges and have cleaned the place up.
Thank |Level course with a few ups and downs. Fast straights and a lot of switchbacks between trees. Good use of the terrain. A lot of new obstacles and trail work. My new quick fix for a fun ride. Many trails to choose from, thus it never really gets boring. Backwards and forwards seem like two different parks.
Thank |This is my home track and where I started riding mountain bikes back in the early 90s and it is still a great place to go for a quick ride or hit a few jumps. The place has undergone a lot of upgrades lately and is improving everytime I go out there. Enjoy!
Thank |If you're in the area and looking for a quick ride this is the place, I would not drive more than 20-30 minutes to get here though as there are likely closer better trails. That being said, for those in the area it is a huge network of trails criss-crossing this way and that, given the limited space. Not a lot of features or variety to the trail, aside from the section of huge BMX jumps. Mostly single and double track with a few bridges and logs here and there. No real ups or downs. All-in-all pretty decent given the terrain and size of the park.
Thank |Rode here for the first time this weekend and was pleasantly suprised. Its a completely different style of riding that is offered on the southwestern part of VA but is challenging and fun all together. I will definitely be back!
Thank |i just rode this trail a few days ago and it seems like someone came and fixed up some of the ttfs and the whole thing seems to flow way better, tons of fun
Thank |This was by far the best trail in the Virginia Beach area. That said it is only a mediocre trail. Trails and bridges could use some love last I saw, someone tore all the bridges out actually. Lots of jumps and terrain features suited more for jump bikes and BMX. Lots of flat terrain when you get away from the jumps
Thank |this trail is the most technical in the virginia beach area. its good to work on your skills. could use a few more miles but if you go with someone and take turns leading around the loops there are a lot of different combinations you could do with some fun technical obsticals.
Thank |This park is a hidden jewel. Easter Virginia Mountainbike Association is working with the city of Chesapeake in the Adopt-a-park program to maintain the park. The park is the cleanest it has ever been. If you haven't been on this trail in 2 years I recommend you give it another chance! The Tecnical Trial Features that were there years ago were removed by the city because they were poorly built and no one was repairing them. We are in the works of planning new TTFs with the city. We hold Trail clean up/building days Quarterly with a cookout after. Check for updates on EVMA.com and Facebook. See you on the trail!
