A blue mountain bike leaning against a tree in a dense forest, surrounded by green foliage and dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves. The ground is covered with brown leaves and small plants. Isle Du Bois mountain bike trail.

Mountain Biking Isle Du Bois

****   Add a review
#11 of 279 mountain bike trails in Texas
#495 in the world

If you think that Dallas trails are too smooth then you need to try Isle du Bois. This is where they put all the rocks. There are rocks going up the hills and down the hills. Then there are some more rocks on the flat parts. Then for good mesure they trew in some more rocks. Isle du Bois has plenty of good downhills. You do have to climb back up the hill to do the next downhill. This might wear you out but it is well worth it. This is one of the best trails in the Dallas system. Check out www.dorba.org to see all the trails.

Great workout. It's best ridden in the fall and spring. There will be a stronger cooler breeze off the lake when the trees die, so be prepped for that.

Love this trail. It compliments the MANY trails we're lucky to have here in North Texas. While the likes of LB Houston and Legacy Park offer great fast XC riding, Isle Du Bois offers you the opportunity for for near endless rocky climbs and decents, putting that full suspension bike to use. And you'll find a real use for that granny gear as well. Like many have said... rocks, more rocks, and them more rocks. Both loose and fixed. There is some sand that can sneak up on you in a couple of turns. While you're at Isle Du Bois, go try Johnson Unit as well (the northern half of the state park on the other side of the lake). Overall not as challenging as Isle Du Bois, but does have an expert loop that is at just about as technical as Isle Du Bois, as well nice sweeping runs. Hats off to DORBA and the Texas State Parks system for these to trail systems!

Excellent single track trail with slight elevation changes with technical rock gardens throughout. Put it on your bucket list.

When they said "This where they put all the rocks," it's not a joke.
Sections A and B are fairly simple, C is intermediate and D is quite difficult. I don't recommend it unless you are used to expert trails.
I went early one Saturday in June. It wasn't crowded and there is plenty of shade from the trees.
Afterwards, I rode along the lake and took a break on a picnic table.
    Nice ride.

This trail is fun, there are quite a few sections with rocks making it technical but still a fantastic trail system. Most of these section were rated by trail markers as most difficult with the black Diamond logo. There is only one area that the sand made it difficult to ride but it's only about a 50 yard section of gradual climb. There was one section still closed due to the flooding and I've heard it is a little sandier than the rest.

Trail can't decide what it wants to be. Sometimes its very technical and rocky. Sometimes it's almost too sandy to ride. Not overly impressed with the trail and wouldn't go back. No even halfway decent climbs either; shame. Lack of skill or fitness was never an issue here, just not the kind of trail I like to ride. Maybe I had too high of expectations?

Hats off to DORBA. I loved this trail. Roots ,rocks, deer dodging, lake views, ups, downs, hard technical stuff, twisty turns. I live in Alabama and it was good to get out of the dense damp forest for awhile. Some parts are sandy and I had to push the bike through a few spots. Rode it on a Friday and had the place to myself.

My Favorite Dallas area trail. This one has a little of everything. Tight singletrack, rocky twisty climbs, sandy areas, short steep climbs, long plodding climbs (by North Texas standards), technical downhills, rocks everywhere. This is a place to hone both skills and endurance.

This trail is a little out of the way so it doesn't get near the use that some of the other trails get.

Don't know what else to say. In my book this is the trail to ride in the Dallas area. Well worth the drive from Dallas, and this trail's twin brother (Johnson's Branch) is just up the rode and is almost as much fun to ride.

My favorite Trail in N. TX. Lots of climbs with no rests! Many Technical rock areas closer to a 10 mile loop now for 05' Indoor showers near trail head. Nice beach and lake to cool off in!

This trail has rocks. Then I think that after they built the trail they added some more rocks. It is one of my favorite trails but I am worn out by the time I finish it. Very technical. Best ridden on a FS.
