Mountain Biking James Long Park Trails

****   Add a review
#197 of 300 mountain bike trails in Virginia
#8,018 in the world

The trail system at James S. Long Regional Park currently consists of approximately 6 miles of dirt trails winding through the wooded areas surrounding the park. A current official trail map and overview is maintained by PWC Parks at:
http://www.pwcparks.org/pdf/trail_jlong.pdf

The trails are regularly utilized by local trail walkers and runners, equestrians, and mountain bikers with an unknown volume of visitors. The trails are primarily doubletrack dirt, semi-primitive, non-motorized public trail, and are accessed from 5 primary trailhead areas. Portions of the trail are singletrack and include multiple crossings of the Catharpin Creek.

The trail system is in the middle of the planned Catharpin Creek Trail System, which is planned to connect Silver Lake Park, James Long Park, Conway Robinson State Park, and the Manassas Nation-al Battlefield with a path along the Catharpin Creek.
Currently, the existing segments of the Catharpin Creek Trail System are the trails located within the above referenced parks, as well as a woodchip equestrian/pedestrian trail between Silver Lake and James Long Park. The trail terminates at Silver Lake Park on the east and Rt. 15 across from James Long Park on the west. The planned system map is available at this link:

Nice ride when Conway Robinson trails are crowded. Has a few a couple of trails with steep rocky/exposed roots that descend down into the stream valley. The trail across the stream is more advanced. Good variability in grade to keep up your heart rate. Well maintained. Somewhat wet-weather friendly on top of the hill. Watch out for hikers and families with dogs.

Good trail network for people in the area. You can string together 6 miles of loops for a nice ride. Great for quick rides, and also a good race venue.
