I rode this as an out and back from the trailhead up FS 2904, but I looked at the Glacier Cyclery Ride Guide after I did this and was surprised to find it in there... they set it up as a 12-15 mile loop, but with only 3 miles of singletrack. So, you could loop it w/the gravel road, or ride it as an out and back. But the out and back will definitely involve some hike-a-bike, esp coming back up the west side of Johnson peak. But it's Montana... get used to it. Some sweet downhills make the hiking all worth it! But like I said, pretty steep singletrack; really narrow in places (nice!), and actually decently exposed in places (really nice!). Check it out.

This is a tough, but rewarding, ride. Definitely some hike-a-bike in spots, but what's a good Montana ride without it? This borders on black-diamond difficulty area in some spots, but is intermediate overall. I recommend doing it as an out-and-back and just sucking up the hike-a-bike instead of riding the miles and miles of forest service roads to make it a loop.* Review edited 7/26/2011* Review edited 7/26/2011
