Rode Kingfisher, Swan Song and Squirrel Creek. All three were in excellent condition even though with all the falling leaves these trails get so much traffic that the leaves are crushed into or rode off the trail. After riding the trails a couple times I'm finally realizing just how many woops, dips and gullies (probably atleast 100)out and back. It's a good challenging fast ride and the newer sections Swan Song and Squirrel Creek are rootless.
For about 10 days I was sick with a head cold and recovered enough to ride here yesterday. A rider told me about the new extension trail across Doggett Rd. I rode about 1.5 miles of the new trail before the rain came in. From the looks, it's been there for many years, very well packed down and smooth.
I started at Blue Heron at Church St and intended to only ride to the first loop back technical section on Kingfisher. But I desided to go to the end of Kingfisher and this is the first time for me on the extension section of Kingfisher. Now the trail runs all the way to Doggett Rd, which is about 3 miles long. Today was alot warmer (55°) than I expected and I almost overexerted myself by starting out at to fast a pace, riding a total of 12 miles. What I see as the main differences compared to the other local trails is less roots, lots of 6 feet deep gullies(probably 30), and you get the feeling that there's more climbing but I think it's just an illusion because there's a couple of steep hillsides you're riding across. This is a super nice xc trail and I hope they will eventually extend across Doggett Rd.
Kingfisher is a fun little loop that adds extra mileage on to Blue Heron. There is a new addition that is not yet completed. We rode it recently, and as of this writing it is just an out and back. Similar terrain to Blue Heron
Great little loop to warm your self up for the Blue Heron and Reedy Fork Trails this loop shares a parking lot with blue heron and Reedy fork connects to Blue Heron at its end
This trail connects with the Blue Heron trail at Yanceyville Road. There is a newly built parking lot at the connection of the two trails. This is a nice short loop built in the same quality way of other Greensboro trails. Quite a few quick up and down "whoops" and some tight turns. Highly recommended for any level rider.
