Mountain Biking Kirkwood Bike Park
#152 of 1,004 mountain bike trails in California
Depending on the month, up to 5 ski lifts will be in operation to ferry you to the top of 11 different downhill trails. Their map is microscopic, but the trails are makrked well and in good shape.
Kona Stinky's are available to rent. These bikes are bought new each season, used only on weekends and sold off at the end of the bike season for about half of their new price and they are still in great shape. Coilers too.

From Sacramento Area:
Via Hwy 88 - CA Route 16 East to Hwy 49 South to Hwy 88 East
Take State Route 16 East (about 30 mi.) Turn Right onto CA Hwy 49 South (go 10.6 mi.) Turn Left onto CA Hwy 88 East through Jackson (go 55.4 mi.) Turn Right onto Kirkwood Meadows Drive. (approx. 2 hrs.)
Kirkwood has some of the best backcountry trails in the Tahoe basin. I thought this place was great for skiing but little did I know....when the backcountry access gates are open, skiers and bikers can find great lines heading out of Kirkwood in all directions...this was excellent. I found this great article on Kirkwood Park resorts, check it out .. http://skiresorts.com/content/kirkwood

Thank |rode every trail and climb in one day, what was with the down hill bikes, we did not find any DH runs.
This is XC all the way, which i love
Thank |Very easy riding, cept the maps are so so at best.
Thank |No need for lift service, staff did not seem to know trails or what was going on!!
Which was kinda funny
Take the lift to the top of the mountain and ride!! There is a lot of single track, and of coarse downhill. I was there last summer, it was great. Below are directions on getting to Kirkwood.
