La Puerta is a great out-and-back ride for the views and its proximity to Manizales. It is a nice climb right out of the city from the neighborhood Milan. As you leave Milan, you will start climbing on pavement until you reach Cero de Oro. Here is where the pavement ends. The rest of the ride is on a dirt road (no singletrack). Take a short downhill from Cero de Oro, and then you will be climbing for the majority of the rest of the ride. As you near the end of the ride you will come to a small community where you can get snacks and fresh orange juice at multiple locations. Climb up past this community until you hit the blue gate (La puerta) and the end of the line. Turn around and you have a fun descent all the way back to the city with views on either side of you.
