Mountain Biking Lake Springs Loop
#114 of 403 mountain bike trails in Georgia
A non technical twisty singletrack loop that is an off shoot of Bartram Trail with some good views of Lake Thurman. It used to be two smaller loops but the Corp. of Engineers re-routed it to one loop. At the far end of the loop there is a small conector to the Lake Springs boat ramp/picnic area.

from Augusta take Washington Rd north to Pollards Corner. Take a right onto Clarks Hill Rd (rt 150 /221) Look for the Corp. of Engineer Lake Springs Recreation area on the left hand side (about 3 miles) Take the turn, trail head is about 300 yard on the right. Bartram Trail crosses road at this location also. Loop is on the right hand side.
Watch for logging at the bottom of the long downhill. The trail is still there though. Nothing to worry about today
Thank |This a great alternative to the FATS trails for newbies like myself. I have been riding for about a month and a half and this has been a fantastic trail to gain some confidence on. It's well marked, has a nice view of the lake, some fun downhill sections and no major features that would be intimidating for new riders. It can be ridden by itself or you can loop it with the 4.2 mile Petersburg trail for a total riding distance of almost 12 miles. It's very beginner friendly and a great place to learn to ride singletrack.
Thank |This is a 3.2 mile loop off of the Bartram Trail. It is a tight and twisty singletrack without a lot of technical elements. Great add on when riding the Bartram Trail. You can get going very fast! All in all just a fantastic loop. If you're on the Bartram, take the time to hit this loop!
Thank |I traveled from Maryland to ride trails in this area. Rode this loop clockwise. Nice views of the water. Twisty turny and narrow singletrack. The most difficult part was the stairs to the dock. Difficult to get lost because the trail is well marked, not that many intersections, signs, and not that long.
Thank |I tend to ride this along with Bartram Trail, this adds about 3 miles each way. I find this an enjoyable addition. It does have a different feel than Bartram. I have also used this as a training loop, ride hard for a loop, take it easy, etc.
