Mountain Biking L.H. Thomson Trails
#45 of 403 mountain bike trails in Georgia
The Thomson company makes bicycle seat posts and handlebar stems for the world's top bicycle manufacturers. The trail is about 5 kilometers of technical single-track. Very little of this trail is level. Obstacles include log jumps, switchbacks, and steep drops. Some erosion has left exposed roots that will challenge your bike handling skills. The landowners would like you to sign a waiver before you hit the trail. This document helps ensure the trail stays open for future riders. Just go inside and ask about the bike trail. Park on the right side of the building and begin your ride at the gap in the fence.

This trail is located just west of the Middle Georgia airport. The course is behind the L.H.Thomson Company's factory at 7800 NE Industrial Boulevard.
Good trails, well marked. Very friendly locals. We came from Savannah, Georgia to hit these trails and are eagerly looking forward to coming back.
Thank |Great fun place to ride with man made and natural features, trail is well maintained and has alot of traffic
Only down side to this trail is it is easy to get turned around because the trail markings are in need of being updated
Thank |I learned to mountain bike on this trail and it will always be a repository of fond memories. I've been told it can be technically challenging as a place to learn, but I enjoyed all the ups and downs this trail provides in a mostly flat area.
Thank |Fun trail. Technical enough to keep your attention. Soft, sandy berms a little scary but after the first lap started to get the idea.

One of the most fun rides I've had this year! I'm from New England, rode the area just once, ran into @Sean and @Mike of SORBA/OMBA (y'all know who you are!) who teamed up and gave me the grand tour!!
Thank |Great area, great ride buddies, great time!!
Very nice place. Some parts of the trails are full of roots, but that makes it fun.
Thank |This is a nice trail. Well maintained and marked. There are trails for every ability.
Thank |Good trail, hard to navigate at times. Fun and we'll maintained. Will be visiting again.
Thank |Sandy/A little Dusty
Thank |Nice middle Georgia trail. Well maintained and has a great changing area. Doesn't hurt that it's right behind Thomson Bike either.
Thank |This is my newest Go to when in Macon.
Great trail with mix of fast flowing parts mixed with tight & twisty. Some good challenging short climbs and descents with rocks and roots. Weaves around a couple creeks for nice scenery.
Thank |I raced here last weekend in the GSC #1. This is a short trail with only about 4.5-5 miles of single track. The terrain is very rooty and the lay out was very tight and twisty. There are no sustained climbing, but the trail does have a lot of short ups and downs. The soil is very sandy, helping it to stand up to the weather, as we found out in our rain soaked race. I imagine the trail will require a good bit of work in the coming weeks after the abuse it took in the race, but it would definately be worth a visit if you're in the area. However, I wouldn't travel far, as there are many more "destination" trails in Ga. to visit before checking this one out. A big shout out to the people who maintain the trail. As always, your volunteer work does not go unnoticed.
Thank |Sorry food lover about the rakeing of the trails they where done by the guys doing the marathon so they would not trip over some of the roots! But the trail is covered back up. We will however be cleaning some of the corners for those who do ride the trail ata ffaster pace. Because we work and take care of these trails so everyone can enjoy them and not just for a certain two. ..oops I mean few.please feel free to share your ideas at a meeting or a work party I sure could use the help! !!!
Thank |I keep reading your reviews about people manicuring the trails. I'm not sure I understand your comments about sidewalks in the woods. Sure there is one stretch that is fairly smooth and wide but the rest of the trail has some of the most roots and rocks, on average, I've ridden in the southeast. Sure there are plenty of trails in the southeast with much much more technical areas but all of the other local trails are much smoother on average. In fact a lot of my friends don't even like riding Thomson trail because it's so rough and technical. I've watched many seasoned riders go down on roots out there. I will agree with you that riding in leaves and pinestraw can be fun if I'm looking to enjoy nature. However, if I'm looking to enjoy mountain biking, which I usually am, I like having nice grippy trails I can fly on and carry speed into a turn.
Don't forget that certain areas do get ruts in them and require raking or grooming to prevent trail erosion which quickly leads to unrideable sections in the trail. Lots of rain can expose roots and at some point they become dangerous. Hundreds of riders packing down dirt allows rain to flow in a river down the trail creating erosion problems. Thomson is a very well maintained trail throughout most of the year and the trail stewards do a great job of keeping the trail fairly natural without major modifications while preventing it from getting out of hand.
Thank |Just rode this trail this morning. Used to be an avid rider before I joined up for the military, recently started getting back into it. Great trail. Not too rough for starting back out. Had some trouble with the direction of the trails, and ended up all over the place. Still had a blast, hopefully after a few more reps, I'll have the directions for the three different trails down!
Thank |Best rail in the Macon area, hands down, A lot of work has been done lately to improve the trail. It is now directional by days of the week, so if you never rode clockwise before you can now without a chance for head ons, Some technical stuff has been added and it flows great. Just wish they coulda added a few humps in the straights here and there for some air. Two thumbs up
Thank |Hey, I feel your pain. Understand the following, though. First off, any changes to the trail are made in the name of long term sustainability. The place gets a lot of traffic and occasionally doofy stuff needs to be fixed in order to keep things ridable. Second, new trail will, with time, get rooty again. Keep riding, be patient. And third, if you have opinions about how the place should be kept up, this is absolutely the wrong forum to use in order to be heard. Join the local SORBA chapter if you haven't already. http://sorbaomba.org . Come out to some work parties. Put some sweat equity in and then you can complain. Otherwise.....
Thank |Trail has been fixed but.....they also went thru and manicured the trail. While it is fun it now has very little technical trail and the hard or red course is just longer than the green, not really any harder. The trail is now just a sidewalk in the woods and any little stump is flagged. There is no risk in this trail. Please leave well enough alone.
Thank |One of the neighbors did decide to enhance their parking lot. It only hit a small piece of the trail and the trail has already been rerouted to accomodate the issue. Fun trail.
Thank |@ sorebutt- Trail is not directional. Us locals ride it in both directions.
Trail length is 4.6 miles
