Mountain Biking LMU to Tipprell Rd trail
#139 of 202 mountain bike trails in Tennessee
Mostly Double track until you come to the DH section that leads to Tipprell Rd and I25 bridge that leads into Cumberland Gap Tunnel. This DH section has several small jumps and several logs to cross. This trail can be very fast so be careful. I attained a speed of 31.5mph on the straight before you have to turn L. After the brief fast straight away the trail goes L then back R and some of it is off camber so know your speed prior to entering the L turn. This DH section is very fun if you like to go fast in the woods. Coming back up is a definite challenge. The DH or uphill section depending on direction drops 400' in .7miles. The best part about it is on Lincoln Memorial University Campus that leads up and behind the school.

Start at the LMU water tower on campus. Follow fireroad to the left for .9 miles. Go through gate and stay on the fireroad that leads up or to the right. Continue for .5 miles on the fireroad until you see a sign on the left that states "no horses." Take this double track that turns into single track for about .3 miles. You will see an orange ribbon on the left. Take this DH trail to Tipprell Rd and then if you want either come back up or take Cumberland Gap greenway trail back to campus.
This is a fun trail, but I rode it yesterday, after not having been here in probably 8-10 years. It is way overgrown, and doesn't appear to see much traffic. If you turn off to the left after starting the 4x trail down to tiprell be wary of a washed out section on the inside of a right hand turn. I just barely made it far enough left at speed to catch my rear wheel on the face of the downhill side of the washout. The hole itself is about the 3x3 and 2 foot deep. It could easily result in a over the bars event. It's a fun trail and they're use to be several good singletrack trails but it's very neglected. I had to cross about 7-8 trees on the climb up to the cut off, and i took out about 50 cross the trail spider webs. You would think this would see more traffic, but sadly it doesn't. There's some bridges and stuff on some of the singletrack trails, but I didn't attempt them after seeing how unmaintained the 4x was.
