The Long Lake trail will take you past the Upper Falls at Fish Creek, ending at Long
Lake. The trail climbs fairly constantly for the first 2 miles and levels off between
9500 and 9800 feet. Beautiful forested trails and views of Fish Creek. Roughly
2400 feet of climbing.
I finally got to descend this entire trail, and it is absolutely gorgeous with great views, rock cliffs, and waterfalls! The trail is also pretty brutally technical for much of it's length... just not the very upper section. There are extended rock gardens with medium sized drops, challenging moves, and several sections with crazy exposure. However, do note that this trail--primarily the lower sections--is EXTREMELY popular with hikers! I made the mistake of riding it on a Saturday, and there were literally hundreds of people walking up the trail, which forced me to stop about every 30 seconds on the lower half. That was a total buzz kill, so I highly recommend only riding this trail on the weekend or when the weather is poor and will keep the hikers at home.
Thank |I would put this trail more in the Intermediate category. The climb was no joke at that altitude (even for those that live in altitude), but wasn't overly technical. There's one hike-a-bike climb section if its too loose that can easily be ripped on the way down. However, it is fast and flowy on the way back, just keep an eye out for hikers when you're rounding corners at 25 mph. A good path for a Beginner-Intermediate biker with a set of lungs.
Thank |Gorgeous high-alpine trail up high. Great descent back to town.
