This is the lower section of River Bluffs Park - the park that's not a park as it was never fully developed by the city of Saint Joseph. It is now a MTB playground.
This section begins where the Upper River Bluffs trail turns to the old stone park structures from the 1930's. The trail is wide and fast! Keep your eyes out for an old rusty car that a tree fell on many years ago as this means you are getting very close to the downhill!
Although wide, the trail is fall line goodness which means it is somewhat eroded in places. "Surfing" side to side around the eroded areas adds to the fun.
The top portion is mostly hardpack. The descent has some gravelly bits mixed into the dirt. When going downhill, this is one of the most fun sections of The River Trail System.
Just before bottoming out at Highland Ave, The Comeback Trail lies just to the left side. Sometimes folks road ride from Highland to this point. That's not my thing. I like to rip it to the bottom; when I'm ready, I'll go back up a few yards to The Comeback Trail or return on Lower River Bluffs if Comeback needs a trim.
