Mountain Biking Makara Peak Mountain Bike Park

****   Add a review
#3 of 171 mountain bike trails in North Island
#828 in the world

The Markara Peak mountain bike park is a real blast.

The handmade trails are a symphony of singletrack elegance. They'll take you to the summit without stretching your chain and they'll take you back down through brilliant berms, jumps, zigzags, humps and bends. Another amazing thing is that because the area is extensive, it's like you're on a cross country ride. The signage is thorough - you won't get lost. The views are wonderful. The regenerating native forest is at times like a green tunnel. Trail maintenance is excellent. This is a top-notch mountain bike park and it even has a wash down pad (and a toilet too).

There are several excellent map boards. If you're new to the park, have a good look at the one in the car park. Several loops are suggested. There will be one to suit you.

Great down hill ride with some nice swooping curves with high berms. Some loose stones to watch out for.

Makara Peak is a world class mountain bike park catering for all riders, from the beginner to the advanced, trails grades easy through to difficult so something for every one. Traveling to Wellington New Zealand its worth spending the day exploring the trail network in pristine regenerating Native forest . Views of Wellington City, the surrounding mountains and across the Cook strait to the top of the South Island from the summit are breath taking, totally worth the single track climb.
its an easy 25 minute ride from the CBD to this amazing MTB park.

A long climb up and some great (and fast) options for the run back down from advanced to intermediate in skill level. A great work out rewarded with a fun trip back to the parking lot.
