Mountain Biking Mammoth Mountain Resort
#7 of 1,004 mountain bike trails in California
Good prices for all day gondola pass. Take the gondola up to the top and you have some sweet trails to choose from. Skid Marks was one of my favs, on the east side of the peak. Velocity downhill, when it's open, is a challenge. Velocity was the nationals course in '01 i believe. Kamakazi is a bomber run, straight, steep, fire road downhill to the bottom. Off the Top is a nice trail with tons of switchbacks, good for the beginner to intermediate rider. At the bottom of the hill "Downtown", "Seven Bridges", and "Shotgun" were sweet also.
the park has 80 miles of singletrack, you can ride up some if you want, but why?

I rode there on Sunday 2 Sep 2018 (a holiday) and found most trails needed a lot of maintenance. Some sections of trails were so sandy, riding them was difficult and not fun. I imagine a lot of money is spent on liability insurance which probably cuts into the money available for maintenance but that is no excuse. If necessary, I would pay more to get a better experience. I hope profit isn't such a motivation that quality isn't put down at a lower step. I am an advanced rider so didn't ride many beginner or intermediate trails so, in all fairness, maybe they are in better shape. I know on a holiday weekend there aren't maintenance crews working but I have ridden there on weekdays and I see no crews working. I did not see any evidence of any recent maintenance and, because I am an advanced rider, I rode many trails. To maintain a quality experience many qualified maintenance and construction employees are needed. Mammoth calls itself "The Premier Bike Park in the U.S." It could be, but currently, it definitely isn't. At this point I won't be coming back and won't be recommending Mammoth.
Thank |There is a lot of work that has gone into building this Park for sure. I would have given it a 5 if it actually had "Dirt". Mammoth Mountain though is all Pumice which is worse than sand for traction and that's just not what I like to ride. If you like that stuff you will think it's a 5! Great lift assisted riding. My favorite was Skid Marks to Lincoln Express to Ricochet.
Thank |although most of the mountain isn't open yet because they are still skiing but whats open is awesome right now with the tacky conditions it is so great right now.
Thank |Great trail system. Start out at the gondola, ride the resort down into the trails into town (especially out of canyon lodge area).
Thank |I wan't too sweet on the lift assisted riding here. The time I was there was so dry my tires were sinking 4" into the volcanic tuff making steering poor. The XC trails in the trees, away from the lift was more my style but didn't ride enough of.
Thank |Fun yet abusing DH experience. Few XC trails but still lots of fun. Great scenery.
Thank |The gondola is quick and you can go half way or all the way. Trails either lead back to gondola or back to the village where you catch the shuttle (5 min).
Thank |So many trails, so much fun. Beginners, advanced, jumps, burms, wood, and the best of all - barely any uphill if you want. The only place I have found in Calif with some good jumps, drops, and lots of trails.
The Mammoth Resort trials are awesome! You take the gondola to either the middle where there are several trails to choose from, or you can take it all the way to the top to choose from more trails. Prices are decent, and if you don't want to bring your bike all the way to mammoth, there are bike stores all over that rent very good quality bikes of all different types. And besides for great trails, the view from the top is amazing. One of my favorite places to be!
