Mountain Biking Margroff Tract
#41 of 99 mountain bike trails in Maryland
Very hilly and technically challenging trail. Terrain changes from rocky to thick pine woods to Hardwood stands. Many log crossings. Lots of wildlife, including the occasional bear.

From Interstate 68 take highway 219 south to town of Accident. Turn left on Accident Bittenger Rd. Travel approximately 2 miles where road bears left continue straight on Fratz Rd. follow up switchbacks thru woods past numerous houses. Property is dotted with natural gas wells. First wellhead will be on your left at clearing on top of hill. Park here in gravel pull off.
Pretty cool trail system. Trail work and blazes are great. There are are a few mtbike obsticles that are challenging. For me about 90% rideable and only 1-2 hike a bike sections. I rode a figure 8 loop in about 70 minutes with stopping at intersections to figure where the trail went next. I would recommend 2 loops if this the only venue for the day. I had the whole place to myself on a Saturday morning although I did see some fresh tracks probably from the day before. Mostly singletrack and solitude.
Thank |Great trail to ride before an Upper Yough release. Very diverse terrain, it has a little of everything and can be ridden in less than an hour.
Thank |This was a very fun and diverse trail. One minute you are riding in fields, the next in an open pine forest, and then a different forest. Very isolated place, I did not see a soul. The loop is apparently 7.5 miles. It took me about 1hr 15min. As far as the directions to get there, the turn onto Fratz road is a left turn at approx 1 mile down road. Then go up Fratz road till you see a natural gas well thing, and turn left and park 50 yards on left, and trail starts here. Cool place, worth a visit.
Thank |Trail network is longer than 5 miles ...
