Mountain Biking Mark's Loop / Morgan's Best

****   Add a review
#35 of 112 mountain bike trails in Alabama
#3,974 in the world

A great warmup to gene's loop or iron legs. Smooth singletrack all the way. The loop is fun either taking the left or right route. Morgan's best is a loop that connects on to Marks. Morgan's best trail is a good bit more technical than marks and is an off camber challenge.

This was a great set of trails before it was logged. It had a little bit of everything and suited different levels of riders.

I just started mountain biking and since I couldn't find Gene's Loop and Iron Legs sounded a little intimidating I decided to try Mark's Loop. It started good, but once we crossed a road at maybe a mile or less in we lost the trail in a clear cut area. We then decided to climb the mountain and look for the trail. The next part we found was right at the rock formation at the top. We rode the trail back down until we hit more clearcut and had to walk back out. It looks like it was a great trail, but most of it was wiped out. I hope that we can get it cleared again because I would love to ride this trail and give it a higher rating.* Review edited 7/18/2011

Morgans Best, the blue arrows, rivals the nearby Iron Legs trail for the best trail in the WMA. Sweet singletrack that will challenge you and really get the heart rate up. Really interesting rock groupings at the top of the hill that made me wonder the origin; civil war, indian, other? New singletrack reroutes look like they were just cut but they were fun.

Great trail with new singletrack added as recently as this year. The singletrack winds its way up the ridge and back down again and features just a few technical spots to keep you on your toes.

In the past couple years this trail has been extended to about 5 or 6 miles. A great trail, and the newer additions add some technical and off camber challenges. With Gene's loop being bulldozed recently, Mark's and Iron legs have been the go to trails for most of us in the area.* Review edited 1/24/2010
