Mountain Biking Maunawili
#16 of 33 mountain bike trails in Hawaii
A lot of hills up and down the last 1/3 or so is all down hill and the best part of trail you can gain good speed. Some walking, roots, rocks, streams, and hair pin turns along the way. About half way you come to a set of stairs leading you down to the Maunawili waterfall, you will have to carry your bike up, and down if you wish to go here not ridable at all. Overall well worth riding this trail not for the weak.

Directions: 1. Via the Pali Highway: From Honolulu, head towards Kailua on the Pali Highway. Just after going through the tunnels, there is a hairpin turn. Begin to look for the parking area (marked scenic overlook), which is just after the hairpin turn. Park in this turnout. The trailhead is adjacent to the parking area.
2. From Pali Highway take the Pali lookout exit, park there and from the lookout take the paved road to the right the trailhead is at the end of the paved road.
3. Recommended to park one car at Pali lookout and another at the 7-11 in Waimanalo cause its a long ride back and you will be tired.
This trail is slick as snot when wet. It's technical as it is almost always damp. It's on the windward side of the island which is the reason it's wet. Unless you have ridden in BC it's unlike anything else you've ever ridden.
