Mountain Biking Mile Creek Trail

*****   Add a review
#12 of 265 mountain bike trails in Montana
#1,070 in the world

It is important to note that Mile Creek Trail is part of the Continental Divide Trail system, so it connects to other trails of various difficulties. Mile Creek Trail itself is a great 14-mile out-and-back jaunt. At first, it gradually rolls up at the base of the mountains; when in the trees, it gets a bit steeper until you hit the switchbacks, of which there are many; however, the pitch isn't too steep. There are some loose, large rocks here and there, but they are easy to avoid. You climb to about 10,000 ft. when you get to the turnaround point. Of course, the trail continues down the other side, if you want to explore. Do further research of the area. Be careful of bears. Hikers and bikers are cautioned to not hike/ride alone, but if you are careful, carry bear spray, you should be okay. I saw one, small black bear, but there are grizzlies. I heard a local story that a biker was attacked by a grizzly years ago. Just use caution and enjoy the incredible scenery.

WOW! This trail is intense, but totally worth it! The infinite number of switchbacks and the 3,500 feet of continuous climbing will have you pushed to your limit. But if you take a break (which you will), you will be smacked in the face by beautiful scenery. Once you get to the top, the scenery gets even better! Views range all the way to the Tetons! When you're finally ready to point you stead downhill, you won't be disappointed either.

Mile Creek trail has a ton of switchbacks. But is mostly all rideable and beautiful country. Can be done as a loop combined with Watkins cr. trail and Sheep Cr. trail. Recommended as a shuttle to Lionshead trailhead or Watkins cr. trailhead.

Epic! Up into the reason you own a Mtn bike. Climb is long but, good and absolutely beautiful. Climb to the CDT and choose your direction or turn around and rally back down and down. Epic and in the middle of nowhere!
