In the winter this is a groomed XC ski trail that is also opened to snowshoers, walkers, runners and fat bikes. It loops around the town of Leadville and through the mining district. Amazing views of the surrounding mountains. Traveling clockwise from the main TH you will cross several town roads so be cautious of traffic. After the first 2 miles or so you are out of town and just enjoying the scenery.
As a part of the Leadville Trail 100 today, this trail was great. As with any trails in the Leadville, it was hard for a guy from sea level! But overall a fantastic trail!
Thank |Great fat biking, with plenty of mileage, gorgeous views, and great grooming. The only thing that would make it a 5-star instead of a 4-star is if it was groomed singletrack instead of a really wide ski trail.
Thank |We rode this on a Friday and it had been freshly groomed. We were nearly first tracks (a couple skiers and a few walkers ahead of us) and the trail surface was hard packed and great riding. We barely left a dent in the corduroy. Riding clockwise you will climb very steadily for almost 6 miles gaining 650 ft. The descent makes up the second half of the route with a few minor rollers along the way.
