Mountain Biking Minnesota Valley State Recreation Area Trail
#82 of 138 mountain bike trails in Minnesota
Multiuse trail that follows the Minnesota River through oak-savannah from Belle Plain to Chaska, MN. Wide doubletrack that sometimes lacks a hardpack trail, but is usually mowed. Can be sandy in some spots. Scenic views of the River. There are some camping areas, and access points to National Wildlife Refuges (e.g., Louisville Swamp) and other public lands and trail systems. A map is available at: http://files.dnr.state.mn.us/maps/state_parks/sra00304.pdf. Watch for horses and hikers.

This trail runs along the Minnesota River from Belle Plain to Chaska, with a paved path from Chaska to Shakopee. Trail can be accessed from any road that crosses the River because the trail will cross too. Major access points are: SH 25 in Belle Plain; CR 57 northeast of Belle Plain; CR 45 and 9 at Thomson Ferry between Jordan and Carver; SH 41 in Chaska, and other access points in Chaska. All of these roads intersect US 169 that follows the river on the southeast; the trail is between US 169 and the river.
I would not recommend this for winter fat bike. I'm new to the sport and my first time at this location but it was impossible to ride some sections as the snow is not groomed for bikes. Pedaling along and would sink into the snow and be unable to continue. Probably great summer riding but today was not a fun ride
Thank |It was ok. It is more of a walking trail then biking, at least near the waterfront. The best part of this trail is towards the opposite side of the Mississippi.
Thank |Rating it 2 stars for views only. Otherwise it's a mellow grade singletrack, double track and paved path. Now it's overgrown in many places. Could be a good winter route for fatbike. Not worth a special trip
