Mountain Biking Mud Lake Trails

****   Add a review
#62 of 388 mountain bike trails in Wisconsin
#2,677 in the world

From the southern trailhead head south to do a short loop along the south side of Mud Lake. The trail will head north to The Wart and eventually to The Pine Forest near Boy Scout Camp Tesomas. Then back south to the north trail head. Cross Crystal Lake road to access the School Forest Loop or head south back to the main trail head. Trail is nearly all rooty, rocky singletrack. Short punchy up and down sections are common. Pay close attention there are numerous intersections with other trails.

Rode here September 18, 2020. Very rocky terrain. If you aren't accustomed to such terrain, you will find it challenging. Well maintained. Signage could be better. Would be very helpful if map was posted at intersections with 'you are here'. I got very turned around at start of Pine loop where dual track sand roads intersect. North side of Mud Lake ran into private property and couldn't continue on trail as land owner closes it after August 15. Good riding if you love rocky terrain.

I had an absolutely great ride, very well maintained, and was challenging enough. I highly recommend this trail, and will be back frequently. Remember to donate for

    Bring yer dad's riding mower.

Tough navigation too. Not my favorite, maybe better if you ride a half dozen times and know where to go/what to avoid.

Nice riding! If not too confident with posted trail map take a picture with phone and carry with. Some offshoots from main trail but the paved and gravel roads help navigation.

I love this trail! I have gone to it almost every time I've gone mountain biking this summer! The terrain, views, and effort put into making this trail is phenomenal! Would highly recommend this trail for all skill levels.

I love it! It's got a lot of flowing single track and some challenging technical sections for some of the higher grade riders! It has 4 ramps. A very well maintained trail with clear trail cut offs and clearly marked "Most Difficult" and "Easiest" trails! The pine forest is the most beautiful and enjoyable parts of the trail I believe. And I'm looking forward to my next ride!

Mud Lake is fun trail that offers many small to medium climbs, some beautiful scenery, and some challenging sections. The singletrack is mostly hardpack dirt with some gravel and sand in a few areas. This probably isn't a a beginners trail but intermediate to advanced will enjoy it. If you're riding in summertime, make sure you have bug spray on, the mosquitos will carry you away.
