Mountain Biking Muskrat Creek

*****   Add a review
#50 of 265 mountain bike trails in Montana
#3,959 in the world

From the trail head, be ready to climb. It's just over a 7 mile climb to the turnaround point at the top. The climb is steep in sections with roots and some impressive rocks. There are also a few creek crossings.
After turning around, the trail is a screaming downhill with some great natural flow.

Jared's review is right on. I will add that this is a wonderful, remote and natural trail. The climb is a grunt to be sure, but it's all rideable and then the return trip back down the hill is more than worth it. This is a special place and well worth seeking out if you have the chance . . .one of the better options in the Helena region for those willing to go beyond what's right next to town.

The climb starts out pretty steep and gets technical in spots but mellows out as you gain elevation.
The brutal climb is totally worth it though, the descent is one of the best I've ridden! Lots of rocks and little rollers/water bars to catch air off of, and even some rock gardens that you can clear in a single hop!
As you get near the bottom, watch out for the switchbacks, they could sneak up on you when you're at speed.

One of the best trails in Montana!
Edit: After riding this trail again last weekend, the trail folks have added some extra lines making the already-awesome descent even better!
