Mountain Biking Nerang State Forrest

****   Add a review
#2 of 37 mountain bike trails in Queensland
#3,209 in the world

A variety of fire trails with off shoots of technically challenging singletrack through rock gardens, small drop offs and creek beds. Exploration is the key to find the tracks. There are a heap of single tracks running off the fire trails so get out there and go hard. If you want to explore the area with someone in the know, goto the Nerang Mountain Bike shop in Nerang West as the Gold Coast Mountain Bike Club run a social ride most Saturdays.

I was visiting Australia for a week or so, and decided to give these trails a try. It's a pretty big system, so I wasn't able to do to much of it in just two days, but what I did do, I really enjoyed. Coming from Colorado, the humidity was tough to deal with, and made me shorten my rides a little bit (the beach was calling...). I would recommend keeping to the Happy Valley and Three Hills area if you're looking for a smooth ride with some tech features thrown in. Some of the other trails, particularly the ones a little further out from the Velodrome entrance, are pretty washed out and unmaintained. Norco Flow looked like it might have been pretty sick at one time, but it's fallen on hard times. The new trails built for the Commonwealth Games are really fun, but also very short. None of the climbs are very big, but I still managed to get 1000 to 1500 ft of elevation per ride. I even saw a kangaroo. "Hired" my bike from Just Ride Nerang down the street, and they could not have been better. Got the Specialized FSR Carbon Comp all dialed in, and gave great advice on the trail system. We stayed in Main Beach and it was a quick 15 min drive to the bike shop, and you can ride out straight from there to the trailhead. Also let me store the bike there while I was not riding it.

Well maintained trails lots of trails. Nerang forest is rated a beginner trail but with trails being added all the time some of the trails that are still in testing (you can ride them) are NOT a beginner also very well maintained. Very convenient location a extremely short ride brings you to the back of Just Ride which has its own café out the back so you can have something to eat and/or drink and next to the building next door is another bike which can come in handy if you pop a tire or damage your bike. Back to the actual trails they are very well maintained and will provide hours upon hours of fun also they're and horses on some trails as well and people walking/hiking. Overall it is just a fabulous place (would also recommend if in the area hinze dam trail)

Amazing set of trails more being added constantly. If your more advanced than a beginner don't worry I've found one trail that is very definitely NOT a beginner :) You are able to ride horses and walk on the fire road and a few trails as well. Very convenient location, extremely short ride to a café that is joined to a Just Ride and next to the building next to the café and Just Ride is another bike store. VERY HIGHLY RECOMENDED.

Good little place to explore. Close to the heart of the gold coast. Won't find any great north shore or anything but will provide the opportunity to get on your bike, close to home. As hard as you want to make it..
