Mountain Biking New River Trail State Park
#50 of 300 mountain bike trails in Virginia
The New River Trail State Park is a very senic ride on an old abandon railroad bed. It is a smooth hard packed surface which is great for a leisure ride. The grade is only 1 to 2 percent and is slightly downhill ride if you start in Galax. The trail follows the senic Chestnut Creek and then the New River which is one of the oldest rivers in the world. There are 2 tunnels and a water fall and many bridge crossings over the river and creek. Great ride for the family anytime of the year and it is incredible in the fall with the fall colors.
