Mountain Biking Old Post
#38 of 206 mountain bike trails in Arkansas
Updated description, 6/7/14 by Bobby Smart:
This is a single track trail system that has recently been re-routed to increase trail length, and better utilize the space and terrain. This is considered a beginner to moderate trail difficulty. Lots of fun, with twists and turns and some moderate hill climbs.
Previous description:
Funny little trail, it had a few technical spots but nothing that the average rider can't handle. Most of the trail is well packed with a few loose rocks throughout. Being as it it all in close quarters the trail gets very twisty andand tight in places. There are no real big climbs so if you enjoy rides with little climbing you should enjoy this, if you are a speed freak you should also enjoy this trail.

From Russellville take HWY 7 south. Just before the city limits watch for Dam Road on your right. Turn onto Dam Road and follow it into Old Post State Park. Once you pass Shepard Road take the next right. You will see the Army Corps of Engineers HQ on your left, continue past and the trail is just above the HQ.
I really like this trail system. Favorite route is to park by the corp building and ride the road to the top of power line trail, then hit zig zag, then pedal back up the road to the exit of tall pines and ride it backward. The tall pines area has some fast flow if ridden backwards!
Thank |Nice single track with a variety of rocks, roots, pine trees and needles, sand, cacti, hills, and turns. Nothing too technical but just enough to keep interesting. A little hard to follow in places but if I didn't get lost you should be fine! I really enjoyed it for sure.

Thank |We stopped here to ride on our way to Mount Magazine. What a fun trail. We really enjoyed the tight turns through the pines, broom sedge, and beautyberry.
If you have trouble railing turns this is the place for you to practice! Makes good use of the limited acreage available. The planned signage will only improve the experience.
Thank |This trail system is 100% singletrack, rideable in all directions, and has been completely rerouted (re-routing started in 2012) with over 3000 hours of volunteer labor and recreated into a rolling contour trail so disregard any post pre-2012. This is a Beginner trail with a few Intermediate rocky sections scattered around . The system is perfect for young kids (6 and up) and those who are very new to riding singletrack. Which is the very reason why I re-designed it this way, how can you grow your cycling community if you do not have a good place for new riders? If you are an experienced cyclist these trails are still a lot of fun as they are very fast with tight / twisty sections. Perfect for Singlespeeds and this who like fast corners. Mt bike parking at Old Post is now in the Tall Pine parking lot right behind the Visitor Center or Caudle Overlook and NOT down by the Tennis Court and Disc Golf start. The trails do not have proper signage and names yet as the US Army Corp. has very specific regulations that are not cheap. Local volunteer trail builders will be trying to secure funding for signage winter 2014-15. The trail system has 3 triangle trail junctions in the center of the system that give several route options. Basically the East and West loops are about 3-4 miles each and the 2 loops in the center are 1-2 mile loops.
Thank |Getting better all the time. Thanks to Poppa Wheelies Bike Shop, Me, Terry, Doug, and others we have reworked 4.5 miles of trail. New trail head is at the north side of Caudle Overlook. Follow the maps posted on the trees at intersections and you will get 11 miles of fun. More trail work to come this fall.
Thank |Did this trail today with a buddy and we both agreed that it was a very nice scenic trail, but was not clearly marked. This is a trail anybody could do except for maybe a few technical sections. Local bike shop (Higlander in Russellville) was a lot of help directing us to the trail.
Thank |Fun Trail....Not very difficult but fun for all riders
