Mountain Biking Old River Road
#331 of 549 mountain bike trails in North Carolina
This is a great warm up ride for the day before a Tsali trip. This is probably the flattest ride you will find in this area, as this dirt road follows the Nantahala river up towards Lake Nantahala. The gradual rise is almost not even noticeable and provides a good workout. After approx. 3.5 miles, Old River Road will end. Go right on Junaluska (paved) road. Immeadiately after bridge, turn left onto High Water Rd. After going under huge pipe, go left on an old washed out road. Go on this road to the end. Go left to cross the creek. Continue on this road (Nantahala Dam Drive) to the end. Go left onto Junaluska Road (paved). Go approx. 1 mile and turn right to return back down Old River Road. After the ride be sure to cool off in one of several waterfalls near the parking area. Whiteoak falls, the largest waterfall, is to the right of the bridge at the beginning of the road as you return. An awesome, quick, 11 mile ride.
