Mountain Biking Philadelphia, Kraut And Littleton Canyon
#170 of 283 mountain bike trails in New Mexico
If scenic beauty is something of interest, try the trails of Philadelphia/Kraut/Littleton Canyon. There's lots of shade on warm summer days and a beautiful serene lake setting awaits you. These three trails offer similarities, they all start out as old mining roads and turn into single track trails, they're all up and then down, they all peak out on Littleton Ridge. You're in the forest with the possibility of seeing all kinds of wildlife depending on season and time of day, maybe even find some gold out there.

Take Hwy 48 towards Capitan turn onto Hwy 37 and follow for approximately 2 miles to the Bonito Lake turn-off, turn left and continue until you see the sign Philadelphia Canyon, park and start riding. The same directions apply to Kraut and Littleton, they're just further up the road.
Philadelphia trail... Go up a nice grade jeep trail (with campsites on each side, so watch for dogs). Then it gets very steep at parts once the single track starts. Plateaus out nicely at about 1.8 miles and descends to other side - I think -- we had to bail because Tstorms were coming in from the North.
Thank |Great little jump ramps coming down. * Review edited 9/1/2007
