Mountain Biking Pine Haven
#136 of 323 mountain bike trails in Michigan
The main trails in the county park are OK doubletrack to ride, but the good trails run out into state land. Stay to the right and kind of follow along the highway until you get to a singletrack on the right. Take it and you'll have to go under an over-pass. Now you're to the good stuff.Usually muddy out here, even when its dry. Many technical sections (tight and twisty) with some short but STEEP climbs. Very fun. It is a pretty challenging ride, not a place for first-timers. I wouldn't go out for a couples days after a good rain, unless you really enjoy cleaning...

Exit US-10 at West River Rd. (just west of Sanford Lake). Head west on Maynard Rd. (along south side of highway). There will be a wooden county sign there. Take the road to the end.
Flat easy trails in the center of the system. Small climbs with intermediate technical level on the perimeter. Great to have these trails in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
Thank |Rode this trail as a kid, thought it was fun back then. Now that I've ridden more of whats out there, this trail seems a bit lackluster. Its good if you're looking for a workout and like XC or cyclocross.
Thank |Rode this trail in the spring and it was not as expected. The single track is not marked well at all and isn't maintained that well either. Basically riding blindly through the leaves until you hit a double wide track where there may or may not be a sign
Thank |Pine Haven recreation area is a Midland County park. It's well maintained and the difficulty of each trail is Cleary marked. Easy to most difficult wide multi-purpose trails, a skating trail for the winter, and a twisty mountain bike Singletrack. Sign posts are prevalent and the system is easily navigable. The Riverside Ravine and Oxbow Flats are a couple good loops with some medium steep climbs and descents. Whole system weaves around near the Salt River, a Titabwasee tributary. Trails were a little muddy after a decent rain and were leaf covered otherwise it'd get a higher rating. Tough to ride after mid October.
Thank |Trail has been cleared of downed trees and is once again rideable. Great Trail.
Thank |Trail is in desperate need of clean-up. Several large downed trees. This is a great loop when it is rideable.
Thank |I just went and rode this loop with a buddy who has rode here for years. It was covered in leaves, so thank god he came with me, cuz the trail was hard to see, so I just made sure that I followed him closely. But...It was actually quite fun. We rode it forwards the first lap, then we rode it backwards the second lap. There are "do not enter" signs that are up to let you know that you are going backwards, but it was January, so there wasn't any other traffic. I actually think that backwrds has a better flow. But it ws fun, if it wasn't for him having to leave to play in a hockey game, I think I would've been up for another lap or two. * Review edited 1/15/2012
Thank |The beginning of this trail is pretty fun. A bit of off Camber decents and climbs, then the trail system has a poor flow. There are a lot of trails branching everywhere, and not much is marked, so it can get frustrating to really get a good ride in. In the spring, this place is muddy! I rode it once this year, and got all turned around with the mud and poor signage. You can ride under the Highway as well and hook up with the Burns Rd System, but this spring that portion of the trail under the overpass was under water.
Thank |This is a fun trail. It's close to home, so that might make it better for me. It's pretty mixed, somewhat tight single track, open double track, which give a nice break in between the tighter stuff. It's a fun local ride, but wouldn't drive overly far to do it. It's also definitely worthwhile to go into the median of US10. You can get there by heading to the northwest corner and it goes under some tall overpasses of the freeway. * Review edited 7/28/2010
Thank |There are some short decent technical sections in this trail but it does not have a good flow. It is a mix of singletrack and double track. There are very few climbs or descents so it gets boring. There are more trails on the other side of the highway that are supposed to be better but I have not ridden those.
