Mountain Biking Pirongia Forest
#34 of 170 mountain bike trails in North Island
From the car park ride up the forest road. All the singletrack hangs off it and there are nice big signs showing trail names and grade. It's a visitor friendly bike park with several map boards! Pick a trail that matches your ability and go for it! You'll soon come back onto the road - the longest trail is less than two kilometres long.
There is a short easy "Kids Trail", a toilet, a donation box, notice board and a map in a hub not far up from the car park. The whole place has a very professional, well-sorted feel.
The local club has a website at: www.waipamtb.org.nz/ and they also have a Facebook presence.

From Hamilton go to Priongia Village then go west off Highway 39 on Baffin Street, cross the Waipa River then go north (right) on O'Shea Road, then left up Sainsbury Road and you'll come to the MTB car park in about 6.5km at the end of the road.
You gotta love this little mountain bike network! Nice trails that don't need a lot of pedal work and a climb back up on a forestry road that doesn't stretch your chain. I loved "Easy As". It is easy but at speed it's flowing and exhilarating! Both The Apprentice and The Alchemist were stunning rides if a bit on the short side. I liked Trick or Treat too and it's longer than the other trails at nearly 2km.
| ThankIt's a small but good mountain bike park. Most of the trails are down-sloping cross-country style and hang off a forestry road so you go up the road and down the purpose built singletrack - all under forest canopy. My favourite trail was The Alchemist. The Apprentice was also great. Both featured nicely curved banked corners, some drops, some jumps and lots of rollers. The machine-made Skills Track features a couple of table tops, big swooping bermed corners and other fun stuff. It was nice and dry when I rode it - not sure how it would be in the winter.
