Great single track, just went yesterday. Couple parts flooded down near the bottom of the gorge but kind of expected at this time of the year. Great trails. Not super hard so a good place for beginners with some nice spots for intermediate riders.
A very nice network of trails in the Plenty Gorge Park .Around 25 km plus of varying singletrack ,from fire trails to some very fun flowing singletracks ,with a network of trails branching all around this park .A popular trailhead & carpark on the corner of Goldsworthy Lane right near the water tank .The trails start from the entrance to the park (near the water tank) ,& branch into a challenging network of mostly very sweet singletrack .The trails are not named , some are, although there are markers all throughout the trail network for reference in emergency or telling your friends where you are .There are creek/river crossings & the trails traverse up & down & around some big hills ,there are some very steep descents ,bring your climbing legs as you'll need them in some sections ,worth the climbs though cos of the flowing descents on some challenging terrain .The Plenty River runs through here ,there are many kangaroos & other wildlife ,as well as the Blue Lake ,which you can ride down to & swim during summer . Its riddled with fish & it has a unique dark green/blue color to the lake .Be careful on the trails surrounding this lake as the drops where the trails traverse the edge of the hill are lethal , some 100 feet or more ,making these sections of trails quite gnarly ,if you do it right though & choose your line well ,these trails are awesome fun .Only a close drive from the city of Melbourne ,along the Greensborough Freeway & then left onto Yan Yean Rd , then turning left into Memorial Drive & left again onto Goldsworthy lane where you ca park near the trailhead . Easy to spend an entire day riding this park , where most of the trails all link together , just know your bearings . The scenery is stunning in some parts with the trails flowing through forests of candlebark trees , gumtrees & other native flora & fauna . There is one flowing section of singletrack that edges along the side of a sheer drop down to the Plenty river , so much fun ,beautiful views , don't get your line wrong along here though . An awesome network of trails maintained by the Plenty Gorge MTB Club .
The directions from singletracks gets you to the trail head at Kariboo Grove. While there's no signs the trails are super easy to find, Choose from fast flowy single track, techy rock gardens/obsticals, wide easy fire road and steady climbs. Heaps of trails, hard packed and clear of debris. Saw about 20 riders in my hour ride. Watch out for dog walkers. From trail head you're only ever 20 mins away from your car. Super fun. Good workout. I couldn't ride all the trails cos I'm coming back from a year off my bike and with the climbs to get tithe top I didn't have the legs. Looking forward to getting back here to earn my turns.
If you cross the gorge there are a heap of tracks there too but loos less used and steeper.
